"obvious."

y/n tried her best to ignore the stares. she was used to stares, but stares from oikawa tōru? maybe in different circumstances, she would've been flattered, or something, but she can guess exactly why his gaze is fixated on her at the moment.
'way to make it fucking obvious, dude.'
pretending to be deeply focused on something outside of the classroom window, y/n's head was fully turned away from the direction where oikawa sat. regardless, she could still feel his stares piercing the back of her head.
they had a little break time before their next class, so students in class 3-6 were chatting away or playing on their phones. chō and aiko made their way over to the h/c-haired girl's desk with cheeky faces.
"oi, y/nnnn." at the sound of aiko's singsong voice, y/n's head turned towards the two girls, a tiny smile gracing her features.
chō grabbed a nearby vacant seat and dragged it over to the class prez's desk, then sat down and rested her elbows on top of said desk. "hey, did you notice?? you've had to have noticed, hehe."
hearing her giggle, y/n definitely knew what chō was referring to, which she mentally face palmed at. however, she tilted her head and decided to play dumb, "notice what?"
"oh, come on, y/n!" aiko groaned, then leaned closer to the other two. her voice lowered, "oikawa tōru has been like, staring at you since you walked in. it's so fucking obvious. whenever he gets the chance, he steals a glance."
"...that rhymed."
"shut up, n/n, focus!" chō rolled her eyes jokingly. "this is serious. that guy is... totally trying to steal our wife from us..." the ravenette looked over at aiko with a fake pout and furrowed eyebrows. aiko just played along, nodding solemnly and rubbing chō's back in a comforting way.
"quit it. you guys are being delusional. i haven't even talked to the guy."
"eh, really?" the blonde raised an eyebrow. "nothing happened between you guys?" at the question, y/n just shook her head, accidentally making eye contact with oikawa in the process, but it ended as soon as it started.
"...you guys would be cute together..."
"chō, weren't you just complaining about him stealing me away from you two? anyway, nothing happened, so i don't know why he's supposedly staring at me." y/n obviously knew, and she felt bad about lying, but the context of the situation wasn't quite something she'd like to share.
the girls dropped the subject, which y/n was thankful for, and began talking about other things until their next class.
meanwhile, let's check up on our man.
he couldn't help it. oikawa simply found himself compelled to just look at y/n. he didn't even realize when he'd be staring, only being snapped out of it whenever y/n moved or someone nearby him moved.
he mainly got out of his trance when y/n's friends walked over to her. rubbing his eyes underneath his glasses and ruffling his brown fluffy hair, he mentally scolded himself for being so distracted by the girl. he hoped she didn't notice. (💀)
oikawa wanted to talk to her. but what would he even say? "hey, nice seeing you yesterday! at therapy, haha!"
yeah, no.
things would definitely get awkward if he just walked up to y/n and started talking to her. so, he told himself that he'd just have to wait until next monday.
maybe he'd talk to her then, or history would just repeat itself and they'd stare at one another. either way, he just wanted to see her again. really see her.
for now, all he could do was look. not observe. not analyze. look.
'i'll look at her. just one more time.'
okay, back to y/n.
the girl was honestly tuning her friends out. she'd give a nod, or a "mhm" occasionally to whatever they were talking about, but she really had a certain boy on her mind.
y/n couldn't blame oikawa for his peaked interest, or his stares, even if he made it way too obvious. i mean, she was thinking about him too.
of course, she was curious about him as well, but she couldn't show that. not here.
but, yeah, she understood his current actions. she also wanted to know who he really was. why she saw him there, if they were in the same messed up little boat, etc etc.
while chō and aiko were distracted in the midst of their own conversation, y/n slowly looked over at oikawa.
the brunette practically flinched when his eyes met hers, but he didn't look away. he couldn't. she didn't look away either.
oikawa felt this wave of accomplishment as he realized the girl didn't automatically tear her e/c eyes away from his like she'd done earlier. the longer he stared, the more he felt captivated.
then, the corners of y/n's mouth tilted upwards ever so slightly. despite their distance from one another, oikawa managed to notice the change on her face. she nodded to him, then looked away.
even though oikawa had nothing to say in the first place, he found himself to be even more so at a loss for words. he saw what just happened as another accomplishment.
abruptly turning his head straight toward the front of the classroom, he then lifted his hand to his face, trying to hide the smile that had forcefully planted itself there.
with reddening cheeks, he thought, 'next monday, y/n. i'll see you then.'
