KIMBERLY'S POV
-"I'll be fine, Mom. Don't worry." I assure my mom.
She's always been the type to worry easily, especially about me. I'm an only child, and my father died due to a failed surgery. It left me and Mom heartbroken. She was the only person I had left in my life. Without her, I'd be lost.
"Okay, but please, take this with you," She commands me as she hands a gold necklace. "For me."
I gasped at the sight of a beautiful gold necklace adorned with a graceful heart-shaped pendant. The pendant is meticulously designed, with smooth, polished contours that catch the light and create a radiant shimmer. The heart's surface has a subtly brushed texture that adds depth and sophistication to the piece. It seemed to open up, and there was the shock of all.
It was a picture of me and my parents, before my father passed away.
As I gazed at the photograph in my trembling hands, tears welled up in my eyes. The image captured a moment frozen in time, my father's smiling face radiating warmth and familiarity.
The weight of his absence hit me like a wave, and a silent sob escaped my lips. The flood of memories and emotions overwhelmed me, and I felt a deep ache in my chest. It was as if he was right there with me, yet painfully out of reach. Each tear that fell was a mixture of longing, love, and the unbearable reality of his absence.
"Your father would be so proud of you, Kim. I love you."
"I love you too, Mom." I smile lowly at her.I hug my mother one last time, and hop into the uber, waving a final goodbye.

I stepped into Calibridge High feeling more nervous than ever. I couldn't tell if it was joy or the fear of starting a new school. I was confident that I would make new friends. Will people like me, though? Will I be accepted in this completely new world?
As I walked into the bustling hallway, my heart suddenly started racing when I saw a VERY attractive guy.
I knew he would be the stereotypical popular guy, with his effortlessly confident stride and that perfectly sculpted body, stood by his locker, surrounded by a group of admiring friends.
My stomach did this weird flip-flop thing, and I could feel my cheeks getting warm as I tried to act casual while stealing glances. It was like time slowed down, and all I could focus on was him – his easy smile, the way he interacted with others, and the air of charisma that seemed to envelop him.
My thoughts were a whirlwind of excitement and nerves, making it hard to concentrate on anything else.
Suddenly, I bump into a strange figure, rather tall, not particularly muscular, but has a pleasant odor.
"What the fuck? Watch where you're going."
His deep voice startles me. My heart sinks as a result of the terrible comment I just got. and all of a sudden, I was filled with rage.
But, he walks past me, just as I was about to start yelling at him. He managed to disregard me so easily that it left me stunned. Why was I about to yell at him in the first place? That was embarrassing. Why couldn't I simply ignore him and walk away, as he did? I'm still new; I cannot make enemies on the first day.
I shrug the thought away and look for my class, after a tough 5 minutes, I've found it.
-
Class just ended, and I was called to the principal. I felt a little nervous, all I can think about is the weird guy that I bumped into earlier. I knock on the door and enter as commanded."Kimberly Martinez." He starts. "I've noticed you haven't picked the classes you'll be taking this year."
I slightly sigh in relief. "Right. Can you show me which are still available?" I question.
After a couple minutes, I've decided on 6 subjects. Math, Chemistry, Human Biology, Geography, Psychology, and Gym.
-
As I walked into my dorm room for the first time, my excitement quickly turned to bewilderment. The dim lighting, heavy velvet curtains, and ornate black furniture gave the room a very gothic atmosphere that I wasn't expecting. I couldn't help but feel a bit weirded out, wondering how I was going to adjust to this dark and dramatic space. The contrast to my usual bright and cheerful surroundings was so stark that it left me feeling a little curious on who my roomie was.
My eyes landed on my new roommate, who had a striking gothic style. With her dark clothes, unique accessories, and artistic makeup, she looked like she came straight out of a story.
She was so gorgeous, it made me embarrassed.
"Hey, I'm Kimberly, your new roommate." I start.
"Oh hey! I'm Tia. Sorry about the mess, I forgot I was sharing."
"Nice to meet you, Tia. Don't worry about it by the way, I'm also a mess." I laughed. "Your style is really cool. It's so different from what I'm used to." I sit on my mattress.
"Appreciate it. I've always been drawn to the darker aesthetics." She shrugs. "That's cool."
"Cool." Tia eyes me.
I felt a little tension in the room, so I felt like I just had to continue the conversation .
"So, what are you studying here?" I murmured.
She looks up at me, "Visual arts. You?"
I smile. "Biology, it's different but I like your passion." She smiles back.
I start unpacking my bags, laying out my comforter and pillows. I'm too tired to arrange anything else. Seconds later, I was already drifting to sleep.
