KIMBERLY'S POV

Buzz
Buzz
BuzzI groan in frustration and check my phone to see who's texting me.
2:17 am"For God's sake." I whisper.
Kimmartinez — 4+ new notifications from Instagram.
I furrow my eyebrows, no one texts me on instagram. I sigh and open the app.
Suddenly, I get up from bed. "Ethan?!" I yell."Holy shit, I'm tryna' sleep here." Tia grumbles. "Sorry."
My phone continues to buzz, and my heart skips a beat. It's just a text, he probably sent it to the wrong person. I tell myself not to get too excited, after all he did Tia really badly.
As I glance at the screen, I see his name, and a rush of butterflies takes over.
Ethann_: heyy
Ethann_: sorry bout today, i was in a bad mood.
Ethann_: we good?
Ethann_: also, don't ask how i found ur account.I try to act casual, but deep down, I can't deny the thrill of knowing he's thinking about me, even if I pretend otherwise.
My hands start to shake as I type a reply.
Kimmartinez: oh hi. it's all good, don't worry about it.
I quickly close my phone and cover my face in the pillows, I can't deny the fact that my heart was skipping beats. No, I shouldn't be thinking this. He did Tia wrong.
He did Tia wrong.
But do I even know her like that?
What am I even sayi-Buzz
I glance at my phone once again and check the message.
Ethann_: cool. so ur name is kim?
Kimmartinez: no actually, it's kimberly, but u can call me kim for short.
Ethann_: bet, u should go to bed btw
Kimmartinez: i was, until u rudely interrupted my sleep🤦🏽♀️
Ethann_: damnn my bad, goodnight
Kimmartinez: goodnight
As I lay back in bed, I couldn't help but read our chats over and over again. The way he texted me first and continued the conversation — I felt a rush of excitement and nervousness.
I tried to sleep but his name echoed in my head, a whisper that's driving me crazy.
It was so quiet, and he was the only thing on my mind. I shouldn't like him, but even if I do, no one has to know, right?
I fought against it, convincing myself that these fluttering feelings were nothing more than a distraction, a waste of time that I couldn't afford. Eventually, I felt myself drifting to sleep.

Geography class is crazy boring. Each word Mr. Anderson said was like a lullaby that threatened to pull me into the sweet embrace of sleep. I tried to distract myself by occasionally scribbling doodles in my notebook. I glanced at the clock, begging time to move faster.
Just as the teacher's voice began to sound distant, the door squeaked open. My eyes snapped to attention as I saw him— Ethan — walking in unbothered, he did everything so effortlessly.
Silence filled the room, disrupted only by the soft thud of the door closing behind him.
Mr. Anderson raised an eyebrow, sighing. "Late again, Ethan. Take a seat, please."
