summary: rafe can't stand the thought of y/n hanging out with someone else.

she hummed as she slurped at the straw of her lemonade as her eyes fixated on the open novel on the table. unbothered by the numerous bodies, scattered around the wreck, y/n quickly finished off the last of the fizzy liquid before flicking the page of her book.

"awh look who it is..." a teasing voice started from directly behind her, causing her to jolt slightly. whipping her head around, she smiled sheepishly as she met his eyes, following them as he sat in the empty chair opposite her. "hi barry" she squeaked, her cheeks flushing as he smirked at her. "what' you doin' out here all by yourself huh? rafe ditch you?" he asked, his gold tooth flashing in the sun as he grinned at her.

"kind of actually.." she chuckled awkwardly, drumming her fingers against the table. "he was supposed to meet me here, but he had plans with that girl, sofia? i think her name is? so it's just me today.." y/n sighed.

"well, i can keep you company if that's aight' with you.." he offered, waving over one of the staff members. barry began ordering himself a drink before turning to y/n. "you want a refill?"

"oh- um, yeah sure. thank you.." she smiled sweetly as she nodded to the server. "so what brings you here?" she asked, taking note of his uncommon arrival. "i jus' been about, y'know? thought i'd kill some time before this meeting later.." he explained, motioning with his hands, causing y/n to nod in understanding.

the rest of the afternoon was filled with harmless conversation and laughter until barry had to leave, but not without offering her a ride home first.

"your destination, lil' lady.." he teased, helping her off the back of his motorbike. giggling, she pressed a light kiss to his cheek. "thank you barry, it was nice to actually spend some time with you, y'know, without all the serious talk and stuff.." she muttered, referring to the countless interactions she'd had with him purely because she happened to be with rafe when deals went down.

"it's no problem girl, i'll see you around yeah?" he nodded, grinning back at her. "oh, yeah of course, um- tell rafe i said hi?" she sighed, saddened at the thought of being ditched by her bestfriend. humming in response, he revved the bikes engine before pulling away from her house, leaving her to skip up the steps.

arriving back at his caravan, he chuckled to himself as he spotted rafe already sat, making himself at home on the outside couch. "yo!" he called, hanging the helmet around the handlebar before strutting over to his friend.

"where you been' man? i've been waiting ages.." rafe tutted, falling back against the couch cushions, sighing. "i've been busy with your lil' friend, just dropped her home.." he teased, enjoying the thrill of winding rafe up. furrowing his brows, his forehead creased as he shot back up. "my little friend?" he asked, looking for clarity.

"yeah man, your friend y/n. i found her at the wreck, she said you ditched her.." barry explained, a slight accusatory tone dripping from his tongue. tilting his head, rafe scoffed, not believing him from a moment. "you're serious? you've been with y/n, my bestfriend?" he asked again.

"shit man, can't be much of a bestfriend if you' ditching her everytime a girl comes along.." barry tutted as he called back, turning his attention to the duffel bag sat on his kitchen counter.

following him inside, rafe ran a hand over his buzzed head, exhaling deeply. "that's what she thinks?" he queried, his tone softer now. "goddamn man, don't you listen? she thinks you'd rather be spending time with that girl!" barry huffed, raising his voice in irritation.

"fucks sake.." rafe mumbled, heading back outside to grab the second bag. "whatever man, let's just sort this shit out..."

back at home, y/n had eaten, showered, and dried her hair before she snuggled up under her covers, the same book from earlier in hand. she hummed in delight at the nights set up. her favourite book, blankets laid out, soft music playing in the background, as well as the moon gleaming through her window, casting the perfect shadow on her framed photographs in the wall. it was perfect, or that was until she was startled by a hard tap on her window.

she eyed the glass pane for a moment as she processed the sound, quickly convincing herself it was the trees or something, until she heard it a second time, soon to be third.

sighing heavily, she pushed off from the bed before glancing out if her window, shocked to find rafe stood outside her house, staring back up at her. furrowing her brows, she signalled to him the she was coming down.

rafe shifted awkwardly in the cold breeze as she washed her figure appear behind the window in the front door, noticing the hem of her pyjama pants trailing along the ground.

"what are you doing here?" she questioned, not caring for her current appearance, despite him staring in awe. "you look cute.." he joked, noticing the remains of a green face mask dotted around her face, and the kink in her hair from having it tied while doing so. "whatever, why are you here so late?" she asked again, ignoring his comment.

"barry said he saw you today.." he started, fixing his eyes to the ground to avoid her gaze, feeling disdain towards the hidden sadness behind it. "yeah, he did. we had a nice time" she stated, folding her arms across her chest. "he's dangerous y/n, you know that right?" he spoke patronisingly.

scoffing, she looked away from him. "yeah? what makes you any less dangerous rafe? you do the same shit" she sassed, fed up with his off and on behaviour in the previous couple weeks. "you know me, that's what makes me less dangerous. you know who i am, and you know you're safe with me. you don't know anything about barry.." he argued, growing frustrated as he pinched the bridge of his nose.

"well if you didn't want me hanging out with him, you shouldn't have ditched me for your new chick!" she snapped, stepping closer as she raised her voice. "i didnt-" rafe struggled to get a word in before she cut him off. "didn't you? who was more important this time if it wasn't her?"

dumbfounded, rafe picked at the skin on his fingers, struggling to find the words to make this right. "look rafe, i don't care if you have a girlfriend, i want you to be happy, but not at my expense. so next time, just don't bother making plans with me just to cancel them.." she started, a comforting smile appearing on her lips.

"i miss you rafe, you're supposed to be my bestfriend, but i'd rather you didn't get my hopes up, m'kay?" she spoke softly as she placed a gentle hand on his arm.

"i- i don't want sofia! okay? i don't want her, she's just a distraction.." he muttered, quick to mentally curse himself for letting the words slip from his mouth. "distraction? from what? you know if you need my help you can always call me?" she questioned, frowning at him in confusion. "no i mean- i mean"

"mean what rafe?" she sighed, tilting her head at him assuringly. "i mean i want you, okay?" he yelled, raising his hands slightly as he ripped the bandaid off. "you want me?" she gasped, stepping away slightly to look at him properly.

"fuck.." he mumbled, watching the way she created distance between them. "shit y/n, i'm sorry. i shouldn't have-" he rambled, suddenly taken by surprise as she launched herself at him, pressing a wet kiss to his lips.

following suit, he wrapped his arms around her waist as hers found their place around his neck, closing the space between them as much as possible.

pulling away, she stared at him, breathless as an ear to ear grin grew on her face. "do you know how long i've wanted you to say that?" she laughed, exasperated as she let her head fall onto his chest. "really?" he asked, still in shock. "really" she stated, giggling at his confusion.

pulling away once more, she grabbed his hands, intertwining their fingers. "do you want to stay here tonight?" she offered shyly, bowing her head sheepishly. nodding frantically, he allowed her to pull him through the front door.
