Kaureen's POV
I didn't even have time to react when I heard his voice in the kitchen asking anty Maryam how she was. All of a sudden the kitchen was quiet, I felt someone staring at me and I didn't have to turn to know that it was the man I'll have to start calling father. "Kaureen, my daughter" he said and I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. I turned around and smiled forcefully at him, good evening sir, I said to him. He went stiff for a second before he said "no my dear, call me baba not sir" I really didn't want to start calling him baba but he might throw me out and I don't know anywhere here so I swallowed my initial words and said welcome..... Baba. He beamed and strides over to hug me. I just stood there awkwardly while anty Maryam was looking like she was hatching an evil plan but masked it with a sorrowful-happy smile. Tsk, I don't trust her don't blame me. Soon baba bombarded me with questions and I think I saw tears in his eyes before anty Maryam asked him to change and that I'm not running away. He laughed and went upstairs. We took the food to the dining and turns out not only one out of sudais' friends were staying for dinner. Anty Maryam glared at him while he and his friends smiled sheepishly. Some of his friends were looking at me like I was an alien (men. Sorry, boys🤦🏽♀️) I resisted the urge to give them the stink eye. Anty served them and they went to sudais' room to eat. Baba came downstairs and asked for sudais, anty told him wat happened and he shook his head and sat down at the head of the table, anty by his right, it was awkward so I sat somewhere not close to them but baba urged me to sit next to anty so I hesitantly did. Dinner was full of questions like wat school I was, my class, and so on. I wanted to reply by saying if he was around he'd have know but I didn't, mammy raised me well. After dinner, baba asked me to see him in his office then he went upstairs. I helped anty Maryam to Clear the dirty dishes and took them to the kitchen sink. I wanted to wash them but she said sikrah would do it then I nodded and headed upstairs after asking her where Baba's study was.
