Winter is a harsh time for everyone.
Some people struggle in maintaining warmth, others are laid off their jobs due to the snow.
Like such for your Family.
Living in a family of four isn't too bad. In fact, it makes it easier to take care of each other.
During winter, you work your ass off to collect wood and sell it for the village. Both the villagers and your parents appreciate it. So it works out for everyone.
Your little brother, Kenji (whomst you've nicknamed Gaki since he was born), enjoyed jumping on your back when you chopped wood. You almost killed him one time while doing it. You received a harsh scolding from your parents when they found out about it.
"Are you almost done chopping wood?" Your mother called out to you, your brother still clinging to your back. "And Kenji, you know better than to be on her back when she's doing her chores!" Her words causing him to whine in annoyance while grudgingly getting off.
A pout rested on his face before you ruffled his hair.
"Don't worry, Gaki. I'll make sure to finish selling the wood early, then you can have as many rides on my back as you want." You smile, causing him to immediately wrap his arms around you neck.
You lift him up in your arms as your dad walks out, taking place next to your mother. You look towards his hands and notice a beautifully crafted box.
He smirks as he notices it caught your attention, "I wanted to give you this before you set out. I think now would be a great time to give it to you." He leans down to press a chaste kiss to your forehead. "You can only open it when you finish your work though," He smiles.
You dive into a hug, almost making him fall over.
"Whatever it is, I'm sure I'll cherish it." You promise.
He pats your head, "I know you will," he boops your nose, "You've never been picky about what you get, that's why everyone loves you."
Quickly pecking each of your family members cheeks, you start packing the wood into your basket as they wave you off. The box now resting in the pocket of your haori
"I've raised her well, don't you think?" Your dad asks your mother, bumping his hip into her.
Your mother rolls her eyes at his antics, "You mean "We", Sweetheart. Don't you take all the credit."
As the two lean in for a kiss you brother makes a fake vomiting sound at their interaction.
"You sure they're related?" He asks his wife, receiving a harsh punch in the arm for his words, "Ow! I was just kidding!"
"Masao Tsugikuni!"

Everyone in the village was sending thanks your way as you delivered the wood to them, each handing you a hefty tip and not allowing you to refuse.
"Just take it! You deserve it after all the work you do for everyone!"
"No, you can have it! I may be working but it doesn't mean you should be giving me all of this!"
The old woman, instead of refusing, puts it in a bag, and hands it to you.
"Just take it," She giggles, "I don't want to be fighting you over such simple things." The door closes slowly in front of you, head tilting in confusion at her antics.
You take notice of the sun setting, taking notice of the few more deliveries you had to make.
You groan at this, "If I don't make it back they're gonna scold me so baaaaaad."
...
After finishing the deliveries, the sun had set and you knew you were screwed.
You were mostly worried about the sun setting because you couldn't tell your way back if it was pitch dark out.
"It would probably be better if I stayed in the village rather than wander the woods..." You mutter to yourself, "I'd probably be double dead if they found out I did that at night."
Finding a bench in the village, you pull the cloth out of the basket before laying it over you, now laying on the bench.
Hopefully, you don't freeze to death overnight.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Waking up, you took notice of more things covering you than you remembered, mind hazy from just sleeping.
The top one wasn't just anything though, it was a haori, a note resting on top of it.
-(Y/N) Tsugikuni, strongest girl in our village.
Recognizing the sheets over you, you folded them and placed each respectively on the owners doorstep.
You placed your tattered haori in the basket, the new one providing you with the warmth you needed during winter.
Making your way back home, it was now easier to see where you were going due to the slight light the sun provided despite being blocked by the clouds.
But when you arrived in front of your house, you were greeted by no one.
Knowing your mother, she would have been waiting since early morning for you. Talking your ear off about how irresponsible you were and providing you with your brothers chores.
As you opened the shoji, the sight in front of you made you wish you had come back early.
