CamilaThe sound of spoons clinking against each other was the only sound rising in the dining room, until Antonio's mother decided to break the silence. "So, Camila, tell me, how did you manage to turn a failed business into a successful one?" She said taking a sip of water on the accord.
I wiped my lips with the napkin and cleared my throat. "I don't know how to put it. You could say I took after my father." I said, forming my lips into a thin line. I didn't fail to notice the look Antonio shot my way. He can't complain about that either. I can say whatever I want. Meanwhile, Mr. Caesar's attention was solely focused on his food, uninterested in our conversation.
"That's nice. I admire that. I see why you're good at what you do, because your father knows his way around business. W-"
"Could you please focus on your food, Elizabeth?" Antonio's father uttered for the first time. The woman instantly composed herself, not before flashing me a smile. We finished the rest of the meal in silence. Antonio's mother took me to the sitting room for a continued session of interrogation, going from one topic to another. In the end, we stayed for dinner. Antonio was absent. I don't know where he went, nor do I care to know.
Time was ticking fast. I grew tired of waiting. Antonio's mother excused herself to make a call and hadn't returned yet. I took the quiet time to explore the living room. A photo frame of a young child caught my eye. There's no mistaking it's Antonio. I could see the resemblance, especially in the eyes. "You shouldn't touch things you haven't been given permission to." I was startled by his deep voice. Those dark eyes were fixated on me.
"I don't think I need permission to look at things." I replied.
"A day will come when you'll beg for that. Get ready; we're leaving." He announced, walking out of the house. If he only knew how his presence annoyed me. I was about to approach his mother when I noticed her descending the stairs.
"Um... Mother, we'll be on our way." I stated, forming my lips into a thin line.
"Thank you for the visit, dear. And don't worry about Antonio. I've given him a piece of my mind. If he tries to mess with you, don't hesitate to inform me." She pulled me into another hug. I felt a bit warm inside.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome. Goodnight then." The sky had grown dark. Antonio's black car gleamed under the pole lights. I opened the door and got inside. I hadn't finished closing the door when I was yanked forward. I winced in pain as my wrist was pulled. "What are you doing?" I exclaimed, trying to free my hand from his grip.
"How dare you! Do you think my mother can save you from me?" He seethed in the same tone he had used in the morning. The flaring of his nostrils didn't go unnoticed by me.
"I don't need anybody's help to protect myself from you. And just so you know, I'm perfectly capable of handling things on my own."
"Oh, is that so? Then today, I'll show you what it truly means to be capable." His grip on my wrist loosened. He started the engine and drove away. The speed he was driving at made me hold onto the car door tightly.
"Could you slow down a bit? You're not the only one in the car. If you want to get into an accident, go ahead and-"
"Shut the hell up! If I want to, I can end your life right this instant without anyone getting suspicious. So, I advise you to shut that filthy mouth of yours." There's was no denying how my body shuddered at his words. I silently prayed for us to reach our destination unharmed. Antonio didn't seem to be in his right state of mind. I could see how he was clenching his jaw.
As soon as he roughly parked the car in the parking lot, he got out. In no time, my door was yanked open, and he pulled me out, dragging me toward the entrance.
"Sir-" His personal man, Rain, rushed up to us. However, Antonio's shout made him backtrack.
"I don't want any interference." he seethed.
His hand was still secured around my wrist as he kicked open the door to his bedroom and locked it with the keys. My heart raced. What was he planning to do? I attempted to lift myself off the bed, but my legs felt weak. My eyes widened as he removed his belt, advancing toward me.
"What... What are you doing?" My voice barely came out clearly.
The corner of his lips twitched up. "What else? The things husbands and wives do on their wedding night. And also to show you the meaning of capable." He moved towards me like a lion closing in on its prey, his eyes full of lust.
I won't allow him to have his way with me. "Wedding night?" A light chuckle escaped me. "We might be husband and wife on paper, but we're not in reality." I spat. He didn't say anything. He unbuttoned his shirt, slipping it off his body. I almost let out a gasp at the sight before me—tattoos covering his skin like a second layer. However, I didn't have time to dwell on them as I felt a touch on my arm. I instinctively jerked my hand away and tried to step off the bed, only to be pulled back by Antonio. "Let me go!"
"You don't walk away when I'm talking to you." I couldn't miss how his biceps flexed.
"You can't control me."
"Oh yes, I can. Because I'm your husband, and you have to fulfill all my needs and demands." Everything happened so quickly that I couldn't react in time. My back collided with the bed, Antonio on top of me.
