3rd Person POV; A few hours ago
"Ma, I'm heading to Nabi's, alright?" Jeongin called out into the empty house, sure his mother would hear him.
He could hear her smile through her words as she yelled back, "Okay, Innie. Make sure to be back before dinner, okay? I'm making kimchi!"
He grinned as he put his shoes on. "Yes, ma!"
Making sure he had the keys to my house, he slipped out of his home, locking the door behind him. He walked on the familiar path that led him straight to Nabi's house excitedly. Sure, he knew where her house was, but he hadn't been there often because of her horrible parents. He was glad that he could finally go over to and hang out at his best friend's place.
Nonetheless, that wasn't the only reason he needed (and wanted) to go. That morning when he woke up in Nabi's living room with what seemed like 1000 other guys, he had realized that quite a few people were missing, including Nabi. The poor boy was going to call her, but Yeji and Chaeryeong had asked him not to, saying that something important was going on and that Nabi would tell Jeongin when she was ready.
Well, he didn't think that was fair. Why did they get to know when they barely knew her and her best friend didn't?
At school earlier today, Jeongin was feeling terrified about whatever had happened. He didn't see any of his new friends or Nabi all day, but that might have been because his friends were all seniors and they didn't have classes together. To his relief, however, he had caught a glimpse of Nabi on her way to study hall midway through the day. She had seemed lively, but something about her had changed. She kept glancing over her shoulder as though someone was following her. That, obviously, was impossible; she was the only one in that hallway.
Something felt very wrong to Jeongin.
So after school, he texted Nabi that he wanted to hang out with her and she happily agreed (as she should; who would say no to Jeongin, the best friend ever?). He ran home to change out of his uniform and into more casual clothes before leaving for her place, which was where he was going.
He found myself a block away from Nabi's place when he saw the front door open. Assuming that she must have seen his coming, he opened my mouth to yell a "hello" at her, but the word never left his mouth.
Instead of the cheerful and excited Nabi he was expecting, he saw a distressed Mark basically carrying a crying one. The two had quickly got into Mark's car, and before Jeongin could do anything, they drove away.
What in the name of fucking Jesus is happening—
Jeongin was concerned. He was scared. He was worried. But most of all, he felt hurt, and it was killing him. He felt like he shouldn't have been feeling hurt that Nabi hadn't told him anything about what was going on in her life. It wasn't her fault in the end; she was just busy. Regardless of his logic, he felt something gnawing inside of him; a growing feeling of emptiness that only grew without his best friend.
The boy ran towards Nabi's house, hoping that Lia was still inside since he hadn't seen her leave. When Jeongin arrived in front of their main door, he rang the doorbell multiple times, still out of breath from running. Lia opened the door, her eyes looking frantic and worried.
"Where are you going?" Jeongin blurted out, taking in her ready-to-go state, with her purse in her hands and her sneakers' laces tied. "Where did Mark take Nabi? What's happening?" Jeongin couldn't stop himself from attacking Lia with questions, but he couldn't help it. He was fucking worried about his best friend.
Lia paused for a moment before replying in a shaky voice, "Come with me; I'll drive you. You've missed a lot, and none of it is good."
