You looked around you at all the rubble, just piles of debris scattered at your feet. There was a terrible ringing in our ears giving you the impression that a bomb just went off somewhere near by. Other than that all you could hear was the cries of the injured and the afraid, there was just so much screaming. A tall man with an eye patch tried to convince you to come with him, you somehow managed to scramble away from both him and the scene of pure terror that was your surroundings. You couldn't stop thinking about the man with the eye patch; wondering what he wanted, and wondering what would have happened if you went with him. You woke up in a cold sweat, looking around your apartment trying to prove to yourself that it actually belonged to you. Everything seemed to be in order, that was until you looked over into the living room. You rolled over your bed to shelter yourself between it and the wall, pulling out and loading a gun you kept in the bottom drawer of your vanity. That was one of the first things you learned as a recruit for HYDRA, always have a weapon in reach. But you didn't work for them anymore, you were a free agent who was neither good nor bad. Your breath got caught in your throat as the figure on the couch shot up and started moving slowly towards you. You knew what to do, you also knew you would have to uproot and leave again once you killed him.
"You don't need to do this. He simply states. stopping seven feet away from where you were crouched down.
"Sure," you scoff, "that's what they all say."
"That's what they said when they recruited you for HYDRA, all of those people you killed said the same thing to you too didn't they?" He says calmly.
"How did you-"
"I worked for HYDRA." He says flicking on the light to reveal himself. You definitely remember him, but you couldn't place from where. Suddenly it clicked, aside from the now 1940's-ish style military hair cut, and the lack of war paint and uniform... This was Bucky Barnes.
"The Winter Soldier." you say not dropping your gun, "You're supposed to be dead."
"That's what HYDRA wanted everyone to think, but I simply just switched sides. I work for SHIELD now... That's also the reason I'm here."
You begin to lower your weapon but raise it immediately as he tries to take another step towards you. "You're here to recruit me aren't you."
"You're a very talented fighter (Y/N), even better than most people we have at SHIELD. You would be quite the asset to the team."
"I'm sorry but I can't go through with that, I just can't go back to that life. Being alone, hurting all those people, being put back into the dark... I can't be that person again." You shake at the memory of your holding cell. You were never aloud to leave that cold dark room, you just couldn't make yourself go back to that life.
"It won't be like that, I promise. But it's either you come with me willingly or I'm going to have to take you by force." Every fiber of your being wanted to believe him. You stood up and dropped your gun before launching yourself out a window and onto the wet street below. You started running because that was the only thing you knew how to do. You weren't fast enough, Bucky caught you and dragged you back to the SHIELD head quarters. Since every time they left you anywhere you tried to escape they were forced to put you in solitary until you calmed down. It took nine days until you finally had the ability to walk the floor freely.
