I had barely slept when the sun woke me from my fever dream. Restless with the thought of being unable to gaze upon his countenance. I lay in my tent listening to the sounds of them going about their morning.

"So Josh, I heard you asked Austen out on a date," Karen inquired.

I held my breath to hear him speak but all I caught was the sound of Sam and Jake laughing.

"I like her," Ronnie remarked. "She's got wit and a pretty face. Definitely better than some of the others you've dated".

"Perhaps Josh has found a new sparing partner," Jake teased in his go-to British accent. "You do love to banter."

I lay there in my sleeping bag, completely still.

"Wow, yeah, well, I mean, maybe," Josh replied optimistically. "She's certainly something else, that's for sure."

Hearing his voice cut through the polyester walls made my heart fall out of rhythm.

"Alright, boys! Van's all set. Better get on the road if you're going to make it there in time." Kelly directed.

"Jake, is Jita still coming in tonight?" Karen asked. "I just want to make sure we're here when she shows up".

"Yeah; she said she'll text you if anything changes."

"Oh, and Sam, have you heard from Danny?"

"Yeah, he said they got there last night. The plan is to caravan back tomorrow morning."

"Alright. Drive safe, and use your blinker!" Karen exclaimed.

The car doors slammed and the sound of the ignition erupted. It was painful to hear them pull away, but I was relieved I wouldn't have to emerge in front of all those prying eyes.
