(Commence exhausted breathy voice) YOU. MAY. PROCEED.The street lights brightened up the cold and wet night. Dozens of stars shone and sparkled down on the tall, old building that was called 'The Shack', indicated with scribbled letters on a black board.
People stood smoking ciggies on the sidewalks and huddled together to keep from the chilling cold.
As they approached the building a radiant yellowish warmth came over her. It felt inviting and wonderful compared to the cold street she was just trying to get away from. She'd been the first one to run out of the cramped up jeep, trying to keep from the rain, she turned a corner right in front of The Shack's entrance and waited for the rest of them.
As soon as every one of them made it on the side walk they walked inside. She felt a wave of gratification and satisfaction as the sweet and spicy smell of the restaurant hit her nostrils.
She noticed Piers spot an open space, completely empty and isolated from the cheerful chatter of the packed building. There were two long benches on either side of a rectangular table and as Piers slid into one side of a booth he took Cameron's hand and pulled her down flush against him. His goofy grin made her laugh.
Piers was the only boy she could be herself with. He'd been her best friend since they were in their second year. He draped a heavy arm around her shoulders as all five of them slid into the battered pale seats.
She could feel the heat and cold on her red cheeks and nose, a strange stinging sensation coming with the odd combination.
When they all were comfortable in their seats, Tyler cleared his throat and pushed his dishevelled red and black hair out of his eyes, the effort useless as it all just flopped down again. "So, how are you lads finding the place? My cousins owned it. Came here almost every day of my life."
Tyler had the exact same sweet spicy smell the restaurant had. It was almost as if it stained onto his pale skin. He was skinny and tall and his eyes were the colour of ash. A single piercing in his left eyebrow gave him a twisted bad ass look to his pretty boy features; a long, straight nose, thick eyebrows, long boy lashes and thin pink lips.Cameron liked him even though he joined their band months before and they've only known him a short while.
"It's lovely," said Jess. She pushed a lock of red hair behind her ear and gave a sweet smile. "And comfy, like a hessian burlap." She jumped onto Phillip and squeezed him tightly. He immediately pushed her off and made a show of wiping his coat with his hands.
But he was smiling. His blonde hair was a mop of volume and shine. From a distance he almost looked like a surfer with his lean frame and tanned skin, despite the cold of London. Him and his family took annual vacation trips and it normally ended with Phillip coming back with a stiff back and a red, sunburnt face.
"How do you know that a potato sack feels comfy anyway?" Phillip scratched a perfectly plucked eyebrow while raising it.
"Haven't you ever been in a sack race?"
"Hello, what would you lads like to have, then?" A short waitress with a friendly smile interrupted Phillip from answering. She held a notebook in one hand and a pen poised in the other.
They ordered their food and, after a while of some serious thought and arguments, decided to have their drinks with their food rather than before it. The waitress stood with her pen pointed onto her note pad still smiling and nodding. The Shack might not have looked that grand, but their service was excellent.
