Sadness.
That's all you were feeling.
You had lost your crew, your captain, your commander- everyone in this war.
It's been 2 years since this war came, went and took the lives of people precious to you.
Some nights you'd wake up in a cold sweat, silently screaming and crying as the memories flooded back. This wasn't missed by your current captain either. He may have been carefree and happy go lucky, but he lost just as much in this war as you did and he knew exactly how you felt.
This night was different.
Tonight was the death anniversary of Fire-fist Ace.
Your commander.
The light of your life.
The shadow that followed you and the fire that lit your spirit up. Months before his capture he had confessed himself to you. When he saw you in Marineford he excitedly hugged you as you cling to him, he was happier when you met his famous brother Luffy. When he died, you didn't cry because you were still fighting and tending to the wounded. When he was buried you helped Marco patch himself up and keep on living. You visited him as many times as you could when you were in the area. Not once shedding a single tear.
All those things came crashing down when Luffy took you under his crew, just because he thought it would be a great idea.
Now you cry more often than before. You would silently break yourself down and build back up for the young captain.
"(Y/N)?" You heard a voice say from the other side of the door, "Can I come in?"
"Y-yeah..."
But today you couldn't.
Not when your captain reminds you so much of your beloved commander. With the same hair, the use of a hat and that pearly white smile- unabashed and innocent for the cruel world to witness and fear.
"I know what today is."
The guilt of not being able to help on time was killing you.
"It's okay. It's not your fault."
You didn't deserve this kindness.
"N-Neither is I-It yours." You're said as best as you could. Accepting the embrace this man was offering you. The way he held your head and kissed your tears had you crying more. He thumbed the ones he couldn't reach and kissed the salty fat tears away as he could. He pressed his forehead against yours and just kept holding on to you as he felt his own errant tear slide down his cheek.
Poor Luffy.
"It'll get easier with time." You whispered, hugging the body to you softly as your tears lessen and instead of leaky eyes, you were a sobbing mess.
"Together. It'll get easier together."
