I got dressed into my pjs and wrapped a blanket around myself and sat on my bed with my legs curled up. I was scrolling through my phone when River knocked on the door and came back in, also looking different as her make-up was removed and she was wearing grey sweatpants and a simple black t-shirt. She sat on the chair opposite the bed and looked at me and her face softened.
"Are you okay?" she asks, and I sat up and crossed my legs.
"I'd rather not talk about it" I told her, and she nodded, understanding that I needed time to wrap my head around it.
"I'm sorry if I ruined the business deal" I told her, I felt bad because what if we don't get this chance again.
"Don't be sorry, we can find other people who would want to be involved, but you were right 80/20 was not right" she said, and I smiled knowing that I helped there.
"I'm also sorry for not asking if I could kiss you" I said my voice going into a whisper since it felt embarrassing to bring it up.
"So, you're sorry for not asking but not sorry for doing it?" she asked as her eyebrow raised up and I felt the blush come back again.
"I'm 100 percent sure I don't regret doing it but still it wasn't right" I told her, and she nodded as there was a knock at the door and she went to go get our food.
I am honoured that she hasn't left me and is staying with me to make sure I'm okay. This softer side of her is what I'm starting to like, she must have younger sisters for her to be like this with me, the protective and kinder side, I just hope it lasts.
As we ate she told me that we have another day here but then we leave at night. I felt bad because I wanted it to just be us two, but I knew Michael was also here, that ruined the mood, and I knew we couldn't act like we were now.
"So, you have a younger sister?" I asked looking down at my plate, I decided to try and get to know her better and to also prove my theory correct.
"I do yes, she's ten years younger than me so I care for her dearly" she said, and I looked up at her and nodded. Her sister is near my age, but I know she has another sister as well.
"And what about your other sister, I know you have two, is she also younger or not?" I asked and I saw the look on her face change to a more distant look and it was bringing back memories from the first week we met.
"Uh yeah, she is older than me by 2 years, but we don't really talk anymore" she says, and I can see a look of regret hidden in her eyes, but I kept pushing like the nosy person I am.
"Why not?" I asked and she shook her head and stood up.
"It's getting late, you should sleep" she says and doesn't say anything else and just goes to her room. Well done me for ruining something again.
Why do I have to keep pushing? I can't even count how many times I have done that; I need to learn to keep my mouth shut and not involve myself in other people's lives.
The next day was not even going the way I planned and not because Michael joined us but because River has gone back to the ice-cold bitch we know and hate. I was glad Michael was here though because it didn't create awkward moments and I could just talk to him, turns out he is great company and has a very likeable personality.
We stopped to get lunch and he paid for us and waited in line, leaving River and I waiting. I looked at her, but her eyes were trained on looking out the window.
"You can't ignore me forever River, we work together" I whisper yelled at her and she turned to look at me.
"That is all we will be" she tells me, and I grew confused at that, there's no way I'm back tracking not with how far I've got.
