Omniscient
Jeremiah sluggishly walked to his front door to answer it. He had been sad for the past two days because his paternal grandmother had died. He was very close to her so he was not taking it well. He looked out of the peephole before unlocking and opening it when he saw it was Cherie.
"Hey." Cherie gave him a sympathetic smile.
"Hey." Jeremiah mumbled, stepping to the side.
Cherie stepped into the house and Jeremiah closed and locked the door back. She'd decided to come visit him and see how he was doing. Trey had told her that he wasn't doing so well and she wanted to try to cheer him up.
"I brought you some Chipotle." She smiled holding up the bag.
"Preciate' it." Jeremiah took the bag from her and sat it on the kitchen counter. He then went to sit on the couch, Cherie followed him.
"How've you been doing?" Cherie questioned.
"I've been okay."
Cherie gently grabbed his face, inspecting it. His eyes were puffy, so she knew he'd been crying. She felt so bad for him, he looked pitiful.
"Do you want to talk?" Cherie questioned; she knew people grieved differently. Some people liked to talk, and some people just liked silence.
"Not really." Cherie nodded in understanding, scooting closer to him and laying her head on his shoulder. She interlaced their fingers and they just sat there in silence before Jeremiah broke it.
"Thank you for coming over."
"Don't mention it." Cherie gave him a small smile.
Cherie and Jeremiah stayed like that for about an hour before he'd drifted off to sleep. He was tired since he hadn't gotten any sleep the previous two nights. Cherie decided to leave when he fell asleep. She sent him a quick text, saying she was at home and to call her if he needed anything.
When Cherie arrived back home, she began making her Quizlet for a test she had next week. Quizlet helped her study since it allowed you to make notecards and take test on the material. The test she was studying for was history. She knew most of the information, but she wanted to know all of it. She currently had all A's and B's and she wanted to keep it that way.
While studying, Cherie received a call from Kristen. She asked if she wanted to ride down to Kissimmee, Jeremiah's hometown for his grandmother's funeral this weekend. She told her she would have to talk her parents before giving her a definite answer. Even though she was 19, she still checked in with her parents for things like that.
Cherie dialed her mother's number and waited for her to answer.
"Hello." Her mother's voice flowed throughout the speaker of her phone.
"Hey ma."
"Hey, what you doing?"
"Nothing, what you doing?"
"About to cook dinner."
"Oh okay, I was calling to tell you that Jeremiah's grandma died, and Kristen and Trey are supposed to go to the funeral this weekend. And I wanted to go with them."
"Where is the funeral supposed to be?"
"Kissimmee."
"Oh okay, how's Jeremiah doing?"
"He's doing okay, I went to see him today and took him some food."
"That was nice."
"Yeah, he seemed so sad. We just sat there in silence for like an hour."
