The Abyss.

A mysterious chasm on an isolated island on the southern Beoluska sea.

No one knows how deep this chasm is. It is believed that the Abyss extends to the very depths of this Earth.

This chasm is the one of the only unexplored places in the world. It is home to mysteries of all sorts. Inhabited by strange creatures and mysterious ancient relics, purpose unknown to man.

These mysteries attracted man to the Abyss and they ventured into the Abyss in hopes for fortune, adventure, mysteries, relics, and so much more.

Eventually, these explorers formed a society around the Abyss. And generations of bold explorers born in this society have been drawn to the cryptic Abyss. These explorers were called cave raiders.

Cave raiders are to wear a whistle around their neck that corresponds to their experience and knowledge of the Abyss. They are handed out to them by the Delver Guild HQ.

Bell—This is handed out to novices who are studying to become a delver.

Red whistle—Indicate that one is an apprentice delver. Only allowed into the first layer.

Blue whistle—Indicates that one is an experienced delver. Allowed into the first and second layer.

Moon whistle—Indicates that one is a highly proficient delver. Allowed into the Third and fourth layer.

Black whistle—Indicates that one is an expert delver. Allowed into the fifth layer.

White whistle—Indicatee that one is a legendary delver. There is no limitation for them and they can go wherever they want.

• The colors for the whistles and ranks were decided by the colors of the night sky. That is why they go from red, blue, moon etc. Red Whistles were made red so it would be easier to pick them out as beginners as the color is not associated with the night sky but more with early morning. The White Whistles are special because they are not part of the night sky  theme.

• Whistles used to be made out of cork but, since cork whistles had  problems. making sounds at stable volumes when wet, they were eventually  replaced with their current, improved designs.

These cave raiders studied the Abyss. They studied its flora-fauna, topography, mysteries, origin, made theories and retrieved relics, creatures, plants for personal use as well as for selling, which earned a lot of money if one was skilled enough.

Relics were used by cave raiders to help with their ventures and and retrieved relics from the Abyss. These relics fetched excellent profit and therefore cave raiding became even more popular. Businesses were set up and trade with foreign land was very successful. The exotic creatures and plants attracted people to get a taste of them. Restaurants were set up to sell exactly that, and they were supplied by cave raiders who sold it to them.

The Abyss' resources were used to make medicines, tools, clothes, snacks, domestic purposes and so much more.

All these gave birth to Orth: The society built around the abyss.

Orth was a rich, lovely and buzzling society. Everything about it was unique in some way and Orth was known around the globe for its culture, relics, food, mysteries, and of course, the Abyss. And it was the Emporium of trade.
