Chapter 1: The Civilization
The lone grey sky we pass through is deadly quiet at this time of day. All I hear is a soft squealing of the flying car as we travel up the meandering path that leads to the Floating City.
The President of the Floating City invited us to go there for a gathering. I glance at my companions. Happiness is evident on their faces as we journey towards the city. For the first time, I'll be arriving at such a place.
The Floating City was built 100 years ago with the help of modern technology. Its creators harnessed their powers to construct new cities high up in the sky, inaccessible to people on the ground unless they have flying cars. I knew that the President’s decision had something important to do with this matter. But we have no choice but to follow the rules set by those in power.
People from below were all sent to the Floating City to witness the new beginning of Domnu.
Some people were quiet, looking at each other, while others were excited. As I looked out the flying car's window, I saw other flying cars following us. I caught glimpses of faces, but they were too far away to see their reactions.
I look around and see most of us seated with blankets pulled up to our chins. Some of my companions keep their heads down as the car continues its ascent to the Floating City. When the flying car stops, I gaze outside. My eyes widen as I take in the sight of the Floating City with its advanced technologies, including improvised working stations operated by robots and other military personnel belonging to this large city.
I tried to look down at where we came from. The Floating City is far below, too high. I gasped. I directed my attention back to my companions. The excitement in their eyes catches the attention of a military captain who announces that it would be great if we accept the terms and conditions of the Floating City.
"No one will escape," the military captain said.
Some nodded at the captain's words, while others kept their gaze fixed outside the vehicle. When I looked outside again, I saw an orange hue enveloping the Floating City. It looked like a shield. A city with an orange shield.
The orange protection quickly disappeared as we entered it.
"We're entering the city."
That was the captain's final statement before the vehicle continued moving towards the main gate of the city.
After a few minutes, we arrived at a small field surrounded by new flying cars. Robots were assisting there, while others observed our arrival. More members of the military arrived, and one of them approached our vehicle. He waved to the captain and smiled.
"I didn't expect the Floating City to look even better up close from the top compared to the view from the ground floor!"
I overheard someone speaking. Slowly, I peeked at where the person was sitting. Joy was evident on their face as they gazed outside the vehicle.
The door of the flying car opened. The captain stepped out first and assisted us inside, signaling that we could leave our seats. One by one, we unfastened our seatbelts and disembarked. There was a line forming as we exited. I was towards the back, so I was one of the last to step out before the vehicle closed.
I looked up and noticed the beauty of the surroundings.
I saw others also emerging from their flying cars, marveling at the stunning image of the Floating City.
"Please, proceed to the Capital City." A mechanical female voice announced. I walked through silently.
Others from my group were also walking. If I were to estimate, we looked like ants among the multitude of people who came to the Floating City. People were amazed by the blue and gold structures that seemed to be made of materials not found in Domnu. Each building was surrounded by blue. Most people paid no mind to obstacles, their gaze fixed on a massive circular building not far from where we stood. And I believe that is the Capital City of the Floating City.
