The next morning, I woke up to hear movement coming from my box in my shack. I jolted up and looked towards the box, feeling my body heat rise.
That stealing mouse better not have come back!
Surprising, only Leafy was there. Her eyes fixated towards the things I kept. She took out a metal sheet from my box and dragged her hand across its surface.
I sighed in relief, "Thank goodness, it's just you."
Leafy jumped backwards at the sound of my voice. A smile grew on her face when she realized it was just me.
"You startled me. I thought you were dead asleep."
"I startled you? I thought you were a thief! Why are you looking through my stuff anyways?" I asked.
"I figured I could find something to make a game out of. It doesn't seem like you have much to do here. I won't do it if you don't like that idea, though."
I stretched my arms out and replied, "No, that's fine. Just ask before looking through my stuff, okay?"
She nodded before putting the metal sheet back in the box. Leafy got up and made her way to the door, looking back at me. Her eyes stayed wide open.
"Now that you're up, I should get going. Pin enjoyed me helping out at the bakery and I'll be able to get you more food," she exclaimed.
Right, last time you brought me some bread.
I agreed, "Food will be nice. Enjoy your time there."
We waved to each other before Leafy left. It was just me in the shack now. The only thing I could hear now was the beeping that always came from outside. It happened everyday at the same time and stayed at a consistent pace. I grunted, unsatisfied.
Life is so repetitive.
Just then, I thought of something that would be new. Texting Loser's number and getting some answers would've been nice. Leafy could be repaid for getting me food.
I reached into my couch and immediately found the piece of paper. Grabbing my phone, I quickly added the number to my contacts, labeling it as Loser. As much as I wanted to text him, I also felt some nervousness. Our first meeting went well, but he was still famous. Would he really help someone like me?
I guess there's only one way to find out.
I texted, "Hey Loser, it's Firey. I had a few questions I was hoping you could answer."
Afterwards, I put my phone down and waited for a response. There was nothing for a few minutes so I got up, walking around the shack to pass the time. At least walking made me feel like I was doing something productive.

A smile grew on my face as I heard the notification. I happily went over, excited to see what Loser had texted-
"Hey Firey, I managed to get a ticket to that race in two days!"
Disappointment filled my body as I realized it was Coiny who texted me. Loser hadn't even seen my message. Still, it was exciting that Coiny would finally get to see a race up close.
I replied, "That's great. Maybe we can spend some time together that day. I'll be working at the sidelines of the race."
"Sounds great! Pin would come but she didn't want to spend her money on a ticket :("
"I could invite Leafy to come with us. She wouldn't need to pay because she wouldn't be counted as living. And you can forget about me wanting to trash her, I've decided to keep her."
Coiny didn't text back for a few minutes. I figured it was because he was already at the bakery and needed to help out. I knew Pin and Coiny slept in the back of the bakery to avoid having to pay for two seperate buildings.
Soon, he replied, "That'd be great. And I'm glad you're keeping her around. She and Pin seem to be becoming friends."
That's... somewhat surprising.
Coiny sent another message, "Don't forget about those gloves you always wear! You can be forgetful."
"I won't, don't worry. I have them nicely tucked away in my couch."
"Sounds good. Need to get going though, gotta help teach Leafy about the bakery. See you later!"
I sighed once I read that. It was nice talking to him, but I wished it lasted longer. Now I didn't have much to do other than to wait for Loser to eventually respond. Still, it felt good being able to look forward to something.
After a while of doing nothing, I scrolled on my phone looking for something entertaining. After seeing all of the ads on my phone, I remembered one of the reasons I stopped using it as often. Other objects would only advertise. Anything to make some more money.
Soon, I came across another ad for Bits and Bytes. I stopped scrolling and checked it out, only to be greeted with shock. Loser was taking a month off.
Hopefully he responds to me soon. He should have all the time in the world.

Hours had gone by. I impatiently waited, getting more bored by the second. How long would it take for Leafy to get back? Talking to her was fun.
Suddenly, the door opened and I saw Leafy carefully walk in, holding a plate with chocolate cake. I almost salivated at the mere sight of it. I hadn't had chocolate in years. She neatly placed the plate down on the floor with a fork.
"Thanks for the cake," I happily said before digging in. In a few bites, most of the cake was gone.
Leafy smiled, "I'd have some if I could eat. It looks so delicious."
I quickly finished eating the last bit of the cake before replying, "You may not be able to have cake, but you could come with me to work in two days."
Leafy's tail immediately sticked straight up and started to lightly sway back at forth. Her eyes widened.
"I'd like that!" She exclaimed in excitement as the smile on her face grew.
I smiled as well. Everything was going great.
