By the time Loser had finished his work on Leafy, the city was bursting with lights. It always got like that during the night. Only Leafy and I walked the streets. She seemed more upbeat and her walking was quieter than usual. Whatever Loser did helped her.
I kept the piece of paper I was given in my left hand. I figured it would be safest there.
Leafy held her charger with no problems and I noticed its glow was much brighter than before. Besides from that, nothing else changed.
As we continued to walk, I looked up into the sky. For once it was clear. Still, the moon was one of the few things I saw. Certain white specks were bright enough for me to make out, but I never knew what they were called.
Maybe Leafy knows what they are...
"Hey, what do you see in the sky?" I asked.
Leafy looked up and stared at seemingly nothing for a bit. Her eyes darted around at the few specks I noticed.
"It's hard to see, but there are a few stars- and the moon, of course."
I smiled and whispered to myself, "So that's what they're called. Stars."
Before I knew it, the two of us got to the shack. It was surprising how fast our walk felt. Leafy made her way in and put her charger in the same place as it was before. I followed her and laid down on my couch. So much happened today. I needed some sleep. My eyes closed with my mind drifting off.
Leafy's still here. She didn't get trashed. Loser thought she was good for me.
I lifted my body to sit up and stare at Leafy. She was sitting on her charger and was still. Completely still. She stayed like that for a bit until her eyes darted to a corner in the shack. Her puplis widened and her tail lightly swayed back and forth.
She's so cheerful. Maybe her personality is rubbing off on me a little. It's... nice to be around her.
I thought to myself more and more. I had gone outside more frequently besides from going to work. My days felt shorter and I knew I was having more fun than usual.
Even Coiny seems to want her around. Maybe it is better if she stays.
She wasn't doing any harm by being here. In fact, it was better that she was here. Even if Leafy was a robot, she still acted like a living object. She had thoughts and feelings.
I got up and made my way towards Leafy. I crouched down in front of her and stared into her eyes. She looked back and softly smiled.
"Can we talk?" I asked.
"Of course. I'm always okay with talking."
I paused, thinking of how to word what I wanted to say. "I'm glad you're living with me. It's honestly refreshing to stay with someone else."
Leafy chuckled while reaching out for my right hand, "I'm glad to be here as well. I feel a lot better now that someone checked up on my mechanics. I'm not as stiff anymore."
"You were nervous when we got there. Did Loser help calm you down?"
She nodded and replied, "Yeah, he did. I hate being able to feel every little thing that gets done to my body. I don't have an off switch so there's nothing I can do to avoid it. Loser at least gave me warnings before doing anything."
I was shocked by how upset she seemed. It just didn't feel right. I pulled my hand away from her.
She was this upset when she realized what year it was.
"Do you remember when you walked off? What were you feeling then?" I questioned. I needed to know what had happened.
Leafy looked down and sighed. Her tail drooped as did her posture. Maybe I shouldn't have asked about that.
"Have you ever felt like you lost someone?..." she asked meekly. Most of the tone she usually spoke with disappeared.
"To be honest... I have," I admitted.
Leafy looked back at me once I said that. There was remorse in her eyes. I could only stare back. We had a mutual understanding of each other at that moment.
She sighed, "Teacher- he was the one to create me. I always assumed I'd see him again but... it's been around 200 years," her voice startled to crack up and it sounded like she wanted to cry, "even if he is dead, I want to figure out what happened to him. It's only fair I get to know."
"I can help you figure that out. Still, don't get your hopes too high. It's difficult to find information about the past."
Leafy didn't reply and stayed silent, but she seemed glad of my offer. Though that silence didn't stay long.
"Wait! Shit- where did my pearl go?!" she yelled.
She looked around in a panic and quickly got up. She made her way to the door but I grabbed onto her arm.
"Don't worry, I have it," I assured.
I went to my couch and stuck my righr hand between the cushions, feelings around for a bit. Soon, I felt a sphere and pulled it out. Sure enough, it was the purple pearl.
I was beginning to think I somehow lost it.
Leafy quickly took the pearl from my hands and gently caressed it. She whispered something before going over to her charger and opening it. The pearl was nicely put in before she closed it.
"Thanks for holding onto it. I don't know what I'd do if it was lost."
"No worries. I knew you liked it and you ended up dropping when you walked off. Plus, I like it as well," I responded before yawning.
She sat on his charger and said, "You should get some sleep. It sounds like you need it."
I nodded in agreement and went back to laying down on my couch.
"Goodnight, Firey."
I closed my eyes and clenched my fists. Suddenly, I felt a sharp jab on my left hand and flinched from the sudden pain. Before I opened my hand, I remembered what I had in it. The piece of paper Loser gave me.
I unfolded the paper and stared at the writing for a bit. It took around three minutes but said, 'Text my number if you want info.' He seemed like the type of object to tell the truth. What information would I need from him anyways.
He could find out what happened to Leafy's Teacher.
I shoved the paper into the crevice of my couch. I'd text the number later. For now, sleep was what I needed.
