"Okay everyone," Mrs. Tallman said cheerfully. "The Sorters have worked tirelessly all night yesterday, but we have your S.O.R.T. results!" Next to Jasmine, Zoe twisted her hair nervously, while Lexi was drawing something on her math homework and couldn't care less.

"When I call your name, please come to the front of the classroom," Mrs. Tallman cleared her throat and lifted a stack of envelopes onto her podium. "Zoe Bridges?"

Zoe rushed to the front of the classroom. She read her letter for a moment, then dashed back to her seat. "Class one," She whispered to Jasmine, who passed the news down to Lexi.

Jasmine's last name started with an O, so she wasn't called on for a few minutes. Finally, Mrs. Tallman called her to the front, and Jasmine let out a breath she didn't realize she'd been holding.

She was too scared to open her envelope right away, so she waited until she was back at her desk to slowly lift the flap and pull out the paper with her results. Zoe and Lexi watched eagerly as Jasmine carefully unfolded the paper.

All of a sudden, Mrs. Tallman made a face. "Oh, Jasmine, I forgot I wasn't supposed to give you yours yet-"

But it was too late. Jasmine had already seen the letter, the terrible, horrible letter, blank except for a singular word stamped across the top in bright red ink.
