"Sophie."
A voice wakes me from my sleep. I yawn. Who is it?
"Sophie."
"What?" I ask.
"I need you." This time, I can recognize the voice. It's Delia.
"But I'm tiiiiiiiiiired..."
"Oh, stop it. Come on."
I follow Delia outside my cabin, as quietly as possible to not wake my cabinmates from their slumber.
"Okay. We don't have much time to talk."
"Why?"
"Because- You know, let's go in Artemis's cabin to talk. Just in case. The cleaning harpies... you know what they're like."
I had forgotten about those. They cleaned the grounds after dark and ate any demigods who were out past bedtime. Anyways, we walk quietly over to her cabin.
Artemis was an eternal maiden. She had no demigod children, unlike many of the gods. She did have a group of Hunters, who also swore to be eternal maidens. Her cabin was empty unless her Hunters were visiting, so it was the perfect place to talk without being overheard.
"What's up?" I ask as we enter Cabin 8.
"I need you to promise me something. I mean it. Promise, or I'm picking someone else for my quest. Okay?"
I feel like I've been punched in the gut. I really want to go on the quest, but... I feel like Delia might be asking a lot of me.
"What?" I mumble.
"I know you've said you would, and I want to trust that. But I want you to swear on the River Styx. I need you to be nice to Kora. She's my best friend, and I want you two to get along. If you don't agree, I'll go ask my friend from the Hephaestus cabin. You know, Lynn. She's honestly a better fit for this quest, but I want you there more. So, promise me that."
I smile. It would be hard, but I could do it. "I swear."

"Kora, Kora, Kora!! IT'S THE DAY!! WE'RE LEAVING FOR MY QUEST!" Delia bounds though the door of the Hades cabin. I trail behind her, tired. First she woke me up last night at like 1 A.M., but then she wakes me AGAIN at 6 to start the quest!
"Ughhhhhhh its too earlyyyyyyyyy for this," Kora moans.
"BUT IT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT DAY OF OUR DEMIGOD LIVES!!!!!!!!!!!" Delia is practically jumping up and down with excitement.
Ten minutes later, we're down at the Big House, saying our final goodbyes to Chiron. Mr. D is at a Pinochle tournament, according to Chiron. Oh well.
"...and don't forget to bring extra drachmas, to Iris- message anyone... Is that it? Yes, I think it is. Well, good luck."
I glance at Kora and Delia, take a deep breath, and start the quest that will most likely kill us.
