Grendel's are truly awful creatures. Normally. Dl explained that when the real Duncan Lawson died of a heart attack at birth, The Lawson's found the young Grendel and took him in. His adoptive parents were witches, and they raised him without question. Ella was raised around magic, so when her parents came home with the screaming little demon, she wrapped her tiny one year old arms around his neck and giggled when he bit her. Now, 19 years later, their parents had disappeared. They had lived on their own for the past few months, searching for their parents when they could get off work.
Essentially, Grendel's are demons, impervious to man-made weapons (meaning my teeth could do more damage than a sword in the hands of the best swordsman in the world) and actually quite scary. They have healing spit, and are normally pretty ugly. But, occasionally, a more human-like Grendel is born, and abandoned by there parents for being "ugly" and unusual.
So. I was living with a demon and a witch. Okay. I could do that. After eating a hearty dinner, I was dragged up the stairs to Ella's room. We were going to Ella's favorite bar.
