"OKAY, OKAY, I'M SORRY!" DL shouted as Ella mercilessly beat him over the head with the "Encyclopedia Of Monsters and Beasts," a large, heavy book with an intricate leather pattern on the front. It was become harder for me to hide my amusement. DL stopped running, and shot a lopsided grin my way. Ella threw the book, hitting DL square in the kisser.

"Oof!" He fell backwards, arms flailing. I couldn't contain my laughter.

"Bwaa haa haaa haaaa, heee hee! Haa!" I sounded like a donkey on drugs. DL lifted the book off his face, and started laughing too. Before we knew it, all of us were cracking up. I felt like I knew these people.

Ella grabbed her camera of the nearby shelf.

"Let me snap a picture. For posterity!" She turned to me and held the camera up.

"Smile." I shook my head. "NOW!" she screeched.

Hesitantly, I revealed my teeth. Ella stopped smiling, and DL stopped his giggling.  He crawled forward, and opened my jaw.

"Damn. Sharp as knives," he ran his long fingers over my teeth, and pulled back when he cut himself.

"Oh, shit. I'm sorry..." I looked down and my hands. I just met DL, and I felt bad for hurting him.

"Nah, It's cool." I looked up to see him spit on his fingers. Like magic, the bleeding stopped, and the wound closed. It was almost as if the wound was never there at all. The word rolled of my tongue.

"Grendel!" I shouted. His  ears perked up, and he turned back to face me. He smiled.

"How'd you know?" He pushed his hair out of his eyes, revealing the silver markings on his forehead.

"When your parents are out feasting on humans most of your life, you have a lot of free time on your hands. Books were my escape." I smiled. I was going to fit in here.
