Abby's P.O.V
It was our graduation day and Pony and I were now 18. We have been waiting so long for this day and I'm excited I'm finally done with school. I moved back in and Pony and I's relationship was better than ever.
"Baby, are you ready to leave yet?" Pony asked, walking into the room.
"Just give me a second." I smiled, pulling my long blue gown on, over my bra and shorts.
"Ok." He smiled, watching me put the gown on.
"Creep." I giggled.
"Whatever." He chuckled, wrapping his arms around my waist.
"I can't wait to leave." I whispered, wrapping my arms around his neck and looking up at him.
"Same." He smiled down at me, kissing my lips. I softly kissed him back before pulling away.
"I'm driving." I giggled, running out of the room and grabbing the keys and my graduation cap off of the table before sliding my black heels on.
"C'mon lovee." I whined, opening the front door.
"I'm coming, I'm coming." He chuckled, hopping out of his room, trying to get his other Converse on. I chuckled at him struggling and quickly hopped into the truck, turning the AC on, saying it was already getting really hot. Pony quickly came running out of the house and jumped into the truck, closing the door.
"Ready?" I giggled, putting the truck into reverse.
"Yup." He chuckled, leaning back into the seat. I quickly pulled out of the driveway and started heading to the school. Two-Bit is finally graduating this year and the rest of the gang would be showing up later because graduation doesn't start for another hour but we need to be there early. Once I got to the school I parked and saw Cherry. I mentally groaned when I saw she had a red gown on her daddy probably paid the school to let her wear.
"Ready?" I asked, smiling over to Pony.
"Yup." He smiled back, hopping out of the car and opening my door, helping me out of the truck. I linked arms with him and walked with him into the school. I was now 5'8 but of course he was now 6'2, my heels only added 2 inches so he was still 4 inches taller then me but that's ok, he can help me with the very top shelves.
We got into the room where all the graduates were staying right now and I nervously bit my lip, looking down and walking with Pony to a seat and surprisingly Two was already there and making jokes to other random greasers. I sat next to Pony and held his hand, still looking down nervously.
"You ok baby?" Pony whispered, rubbing my hand with his thumb.
"Yeah, just anxious." I smiled, letting out a shaky breath.
"It's ok." He smiled, kissing the side of my head. I nodded, resting my head on his shoulder and listened to Two talking a storm and all of his jokes, laughing at some until it was finally time to graduate.
"Ok, we will be sitting by order of the first letter of your last name." One of our teachers said, I smiled, knowing I could probably sit next to Pony.
"A's!" She called. I spaced out and sat there, I had so much anxiety but I tried to push it all down and just think about how much joy I was going to have, finally leaving this school and being done with this learning bullshit. Fucking sucks.
"Baby, c'mon." Pony whispered, lightly shaking me.
"Huh? Oh, ya." I mumbled, standing up and taking his hands before following everyone else down the hall and to the auditorium. Once we found a seat I was able to sit next to Pony and I tightly held his hand, tapping my foot and biting my lip.
I was terrified to go up on stage, having over 800 people watching me just grab a diploma. What if I tripped and fell, in front of over 800 people... I would move to Alaska, I giggled at the thought of moving to Alaska because of a fall and Pony looked down at me.
"What's funny love?" He chuckled, looking down at me.
"I was thinking that if I tripped I would move to Alaska." I softly whispered, laying my head on his shoulder.
"I would only let you if you took me with." He whispered, laying his head on mine. I spaced out until I heard a teachers voice, quieting everyone down and I started paying slightly more attention to him.
As the speeches started I began to space out again and softly played with Pony's fingers, not even noticing until they called our side to stand up to start getting our diplomas. I quickly stopped playing with his fingers and tightly squeezed his hand before letting go.
"Ready love?" He softly whispered in my ear as I was standing in front of him in line as name after name was called.
"Sorta." I whispered. I felt him wrap his arms around my waist and I felt my cheeks heat up as I looked down. Once it got closer to our turns he let go and I was so close to the front of the line.
"Ashlynn Ray Camp!" The teacher called.
"Abrielle Rain Cade!" He called, I took a shaky breath as I started walking towards the stage. I heard hoots and hollers from the gang while others clapped but I shut it all out as I focused on my steps. Don't trip, don't trip, don't trip. I kept repeating in my head and as I grabbed my diploma and left the stage they began calling names again.
"Ponyboy Micheal Curtis!" He called, I heard the gang again with applause and I quickly found my seat again, waiting for Pony to sit back down.
"Hey baby." He smiled, sitting next to me.
"Hi." I softly whispered, pecking his lips. I held his hand, resting my head back on his shoulder and spaced out until I heard people hyping up.
"Keith David Matthews." He called, I saw Two roll his eyes but the crowd was roaring and I heard Steve and Soda yelling. I smiled as I watched him grab his diploma, giving high fives to kids as he walked back to his seat.
I spaced out for the rest until I heard Pony's name get called. I looked at him confused and he smiled at me before going up to the stage. I gave him my full attention as I sat up straight.
"Ok, so. Wow, I don't know what to say." He chuckled nervously.
"So, my best buddy, Johnny Cade, has a sister, Abby. I have loved her since Johnny finally introduced her to the gang and we instantly became really close. Now Soda and Darry don't go skinning me after this." He chuckled and I blushed, looking down as I heard hollering.
"Abby, could you come up?" He asked, I quickly looked up and slowly made my way to the stage, feeling everyones stares but I kept my concentration on Pony, no longer feeling anxious.
"Abby, I know this will sound really cliché but will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me?" He asked, getting down on one knee and pulling out a beautiful ring in a blue box.
I felt tears in my eyes, unable to say anything I nodded and hugged him. He smiled, standing up and sliding the ring onto my finger as the whole auditorium was hooting and hollering and just applauding. Tears streamed down my cheeks as I quickly kissed him.
"I love you." I whispered.
"I love you too." He chuckled before pecking my lips and taking my hand, bringing us back to the seats. People were watching, smiling or giving me a dirty look but I really didn't care at this point because I was going to get married to the one and only Ponyboy Curtis.
