Chapter Three
Andy was about to speak when they heard the door open, Maya standing in the doorframe. "Why are you talking about the captain position like it's already going to be yours?" Maya paused when she saw Andy look down. "Oh, my god. You're going to be the next captain of 19, aren't you?" Vic and Andy were both in shock, not knowing what to say. "Wow. some friend you are."
Andy and Vic watched Maya walk out of the bathroom and both had one thought. Shit.
"Maya," Andy called after her, running out of the bathroom, "Please stop."
"Why? So, you rub it in my face?" Maya turned around, facing her. "You just had to go and talk to Ross, didn't you?"
"Maya, you have no idea what's been going on in my life since before your wedding. You didn't even fight for me to stay at the station to McCallister." Andy told her. "No one did. Only one person from this house was there for me and I only had one ally at station 23."
"Oh, don't go playing the victim now. You're not innocent, Herrera. You've always been one to look out for yourself."
Andy looks shocked. "Are you serious? When Dixon was on your ass about having us take control of the military pawn shop, I stood up for you when we got back to the station, and he came after you. When you went to find Carina when she was chasing after that woman with Andrew and the Battalion Chief came to do the inspection, I said only good things about you." Andy stated, mad that Maya thought so little of her.
"Oh, so only two times? How nice." Maya said sarcastically.
"Bishop, just shut up," Vic exclaimed, walking closer to the pair.
"Aw, you need someone to stand up for you, Andy?" Maya mocked. "How sweet."
Andy looked down, not wanting to deal with this right now. Vic looked at her girlfriend and saw the pain in her eyes and she wondered how her confident girlfriend got this depressed.
"Maya, you need to leave her alone," Vic told her, tired of this.
"Why are you protecting her so much? When will you realize she isn't worth it?" Maya bit back. "She should've just told Chief Ross "No" to becoming captain here. Everyone here knows that I deserve it." Maya told them, smirking.
What the three women didn't realize was that the rest of the 'A' shift members had come into the reception area and overheard what was said.
"What the hell is going on here?" Jack asked.
"Oh, you didn't hear? Our good friend Andy here has been named as captain of this house." Maya told them, hatred dripping in her words.
"How? Beckett is captain right now."
"No shit, clearly Andy sucked up or made a deal with Ross and asked to come back to 19 since station 23 sucks so badly," Maya told them.
"Maya, you need to shut up." Travis tried to tell her.
"Why? Why should I? Oh, wait. You were in the meeting in the conference room. What the heck was talked about?" Maya asked, looking from Travis to Andy. "Can someone fucking tell us? We deserve to know if you're suddenly coming back here."
Andy was looking down, Vic rubbing her back. "I- I've been having trouble at 23 and it's gotten really bad so I figured that I should talk to Diane and Ross about it."
"What the hell could be so bad that you couldn't handle it?" Maya asked, attitude still dripping from her voice.
"They found out that I'm gay," Andy said, barely audible.
Everyone, except Vic and Travis, were in shock.
"Gay? You gay? Are you fucking kidding me?" Maya asked, "Are you seriously just making shit up now?"
"Enough!" a voice came from the front doors, and everyone turned to look.
"I came back because I forgot my notes in the conference room, but I come back to see you all bullying Andy. Are you kidding me?" Chief Ross asked. "Is this seriously how you treat your new captain?"
Andy is quick to answer. "They don't know that I'm going to be captain yet. Only Maya overheard Vic and me talking and that's what started all this."
Ross nods. "Bishop, what the hell is your problem with Herrera coming back and being captain?"
'I should be captain."
Ross hears Travis, Vic, and Jack scoff.
"It sounds like your fellow teammates disagree." Ross pointed out, crossing her arms.
Maya looks down, finally not having a comeback.
"It's because Andy's deserved captain for years. Not to mention she should've been promoted to captain at this house instead of being transferred to station 23 for sticking up for the same friend that's hating on her right now." Jack said, standing up for his best friend.
"Deserved? She ignored Chief Ripley's orders. She watched Ryan die and couldn't handle her emotions so Pruitt and Sullivan decided she shouldn't be promoted and-"
"That's enough!" Vic shouted, wrapping an arm around Andy's waist. "Maya, you have no right to speak to her like this." Vic felt Andy begin to shake. "I'm going to take Andy to a bunk," Vic told the group. "I'll be back down in a few minutes." Vic didn't wait for anyone to answer and made her way up the stairs and to the locker/bunk area.
Andy followed Vic silently, not paying attention to anything other than her hand in Vic's.
"Andy," Andy looks up at Vic. "Are you okay to be up here alone? I think I need to go back down to deal with the fallout of what just happened." Vic watched Andy look down. "I know, I know. You didn't deserve to have all that shit said to you. Maya was completely out of line." Vic undid Andy's ponytail and ran a hand through Andy's hair and pulled her into a hug. "Listen, I know you're strong. I know you don't normally let shit like this get to you, but it's okay. I know being at that horrible station had a huge impact on your confidence, but you must know that everyone here, everyone besides Maya I guess, has your back. We all love you, Andy. Please remember that." Vic told her, kissing her forehead.
"I love all of you too." Andy looks at Vic. "I do love some people more than others though."
"Oh, yeah? Like whom?" Vic asked, playing along. "I love you too, Andy," Vic told her, let go of Andy and pulled her into a kiss when they got into a bunk room a few seconds later. Andy wrapped an arm around Vic's back and pulled her closer, grinning at the moan she had caused her girlfriend to make.
Andy pulled back after a few seconds. "I love you too, Vic.'
Vic smiled, pulled her in for one last kiss and then left the bunk room. She made her way downstairs after taking a moment to compose herself. She saw that the group was still all together, and she went up to Maya, "What the fuck is your problem, Bishop?"
I know. I don't know why I did it. It just happened. I don't have a plan for where I want this story to go but I do know I didn't originally have this story with Maya as an antagonist. Sorry, promise I won't have her being a jerk for long.
Trying to update my stories as fast as I can. Going to be busier with a second job and with starting my, hopefully, last year of college soon as well.
