It was dark. Icekit couldn't even see her own paws in front of her. Then again, that might just be because she had her eyes closed. She focused on scent and sound to move around. From the four or five trees she ran into, she guessed she was in a forest.
The poor she-kit was lost. The last thing Icekit could remember was waking up in the dark place, cold and alone.
Opening her eyes, Icekit was surprised to find that she was able to see.
Blinking, the kit glanced around her.
It was a forest, as she thought. Although, despite the fact that the full moon shone brightly above her, it was very dark. The trees were tall, and they swayed in the harsh breeze that flattened the kit's fur and made her eyes water.
A sudden loud shriek caused her to jump, dashing towards the nearest clump of ferns without thinking. She looked up towards the source of the sound, and nearly fainted at the sight.
A few fox-lengths in front of her was a silver she-cat with gray flecks, bent over a blue-gray tom. They were both scarred and dripping with blood. The tom was laid out on the ground, and the she-cat's amber eyes were clouded with what Icekit guessed was anger and sadness. Icekit realized that the tom must be dead. Her nose wrinkled at the foul smell that rose from his body.
The she-cat suddenly glanced up, fur bristling. She glared in the direction that Icekit was hiding, which caused the lost kit to jump in surprise.
"I know you're in there!" She yowled, voice cracking with the emotions that threatened to take over. "Show yourself!"
Icekit froze. Was the stranger talking about her? Or was there someone else hiding from the fierce she-cat?
Icekit glanced around the area, but found nothing but trees and ferns. She shuddered as a sudden thought popped into her head.
Did the she-cat think Icekit killed the tom?
She quickly pushed away the thought. She didn't even know them!
Shaking her head slightly, she lifted a paw to step out of her hiding place, but froze once she heard a low, raspy meow.
"Ah, so you're not as fox-brained as I thought."
A large golden tom stepped out from the area only a mouse-length away from Icekit.
The newcomer's appearance nearly made Icekit vomit. The tom had long, knotted fur that had clumps missing, mainly around his neck and back legs, showing bare pink skin. He was scarred, just like the she-cat and dead tom. Some wounds were old, dry blood surrounding the scratches and bite-marks, and some were fresh. His right ear was torn, and a large scar ran down his face and over a cloudy blue-green eye. Icekit guessed he was blind in that eye, which would explain why he didn't see her next to him. The blind eye was on the left side of his face, where she was.
She was snapped out of her thoughts once she heard a low, dangerous growl from the she-cat.
"Don't come any closer or else I'll make you blind altogether." She spat. This only made the tom purr in amusement. "Oh, I'm sorry, are you upset that you're precious mate died?" His purr turned into a growl, one that made Icekit sink to the ground and flatten her ears.
The scarred cat was suddenly in front of the she-cat, and he hissed warningly, "Don't come back again, Dewberry," he meowed, "Or you'll end up just like him."
Icekit twitched her ears. Why does that name sound so familiar? She knew that cat. She knew that cat very well. So why can't she think of who it is?
A sudden, blinding flash of light made her jump, and she squeezed her eyes shut.
A small poke in her side made her blink her eyes open, and she found that she inside a small underground den. The rocky roof was only four fox-lengths tall, and the actual cave was at least five fox-lengths wide. The floor was covered with dead grass and scattered moss, along with moss, leaves, and feathers that were clumped together to make nests. She shut her eyes again, trying to remember her dream, but another sharp prod in the side made her eyes open again.
Next to her, were the bright, excited eyes of her denmates. She blinked, yawning and slowly rising to her paws.
The two kits bounced around excitedly, and the brown tabby she-kit was the first to speak.
"Icekit! Icekit! Icekit! Guess what! Guess what!" She squeaked in her tiny high-pitched voice, blue eyes shining.
Icekit yawned again, still trying to remember what she dreamt.
Something happened... Something she thinks she should remember. She squeezed her eyes shut. There was a name... If only she could remember what it was. And small whining noise made her sigh. Fine. It might not have been all that special anyway.
She opened her eyes and saw that she was nose-to-nose with the brown tabby. She squeaked in surprise. "Yes, what is it, Harekit?" The brown kit, Harekit, only purred in response. "There's a fox that is trying to kill us!" She mewed happily.
Icekit blinked. "And you're happy about that why?"
The golden tom kit spoke next, a little calmer than his excited sister. "Because we're going to sneak out of camp and kill it! Then we can be Apprentices!" He announced.
Icekit sighed. "That's not gonna happen." She murmured.
Harekit's tail drooped. "Why?"
Icekit's eyes narrowed. "You're not leaving without me!" She purred. Harekit squealed in delight and turned to her brother. "Hear that, Lionkit? Let's go!" Lionkit hesitated, even though it was his idea.
"Wait.. Shouldn't we tell Lightningfrost?" Harekit sighed in annoyance. "The whole point of sneaking out is to not tell anybody!" Lionkit glanced towards Icekit. "But what about your mother?" Icekit shook her head. "She wouldn't care." Harekit's head tilted in surprise. "Why?""Dewberry never cared about me."

New story. Not gonna be very good, I can promise you that x3 I'm not the best at writing stories. I usually skip to the action, completely jumping over everything else, which usually makes my stories about eight chapters long. And the chapters will be very short, sorry about that. I'll be adding in references to other fandoms that I'm in, so expect characters with names from television shows or book series'.
I hope you enjoy this book, nonetheless. Happy reading~~Night
