Melting a frozen heart (Katjaxgn!reader)

Chapter 1

You ride next to Linda on Meteor. Apparently the Dark Riders had been causing chaos somewhere in the Everwind Fields and the Soul Riders had been sent to 'take care of it'. That's what Fripp said at least, but it pretty much meant they had to risk their life in a fight with the Dark Core's generals. Y/h shook their head, the starbreed wasn't a big fan of the idea either. You softly patted their neck to reassure them. "It'll be okay, we're just going to kick some ass." Alex heard that and threw her fists in the air. "Yeahh! We're going to kick their asses back to Garnok himself!" Her excitement caused both Lisa and Linda to laugh. Though Anne stayed quiet, as always. She slowed down Concorde a bit so she now rode next to you. You made eye contact with her and it seemed like she wasn't too fond of this mission either. You quietly rode beside her to your destination.

You let out a sigh as you and the others arrive at the place where the Dark Riders have been causing chaos. Much to your disliking, Lisa had given in and agreed with Alex’s plan to just charge at them as a surprise attack. Y/h was very hesitant but eventually followed the others as they quickly galloped towards the Dark Riders. Every one of the Soul Riders shot their powers at them. While the Dark Riders were indeed taken by surprise they quickly processed what was going on and fought back. You managed to get close to Jay, almost able to knock them out. But Alex hadn't noticed you getting near Jay and shot a lightning bolt towards the both of you. It's only because Katja managed to cast an ice barrier right in time that you weren't hit. But Alex was so busy trying to fight off Sabine that she barely noticed. Luckily Lisa was wise enough to see that this wasn't going to end well and called everyone back. "Soul Riders! Retreat! We can't win this right now!" You quickly turned y/h around and rushed back. Alex on the other hand struggled with listening to Lisa, as she was 'winning' against Sabine. But in reality Sabine had completely overpowered Alex, it was only thanks to Anne that Alex managed to escape.

Even though they had technically won, the Dark Riders fled as well. And maybe it was your mind playing tricks on you, but you could've sworn Katja slowed down a bit to look at you before disappearing into a portal cast by Jay. You watched them disappear as the realization hit. Katja saved your life. The cold, emotionless Dark Core associate had saved your life. You could hardly believe it. It made you feel a little warm inside, but you didn't know why. She was a Dark Rider, why would she save you? And why did you secretly feel happy about it? She probably didn't even mean to save you and only tried to shield Jay from Alex's attack. You were probably just lucky you were so close to Jay in that moment. But maybe.. just maybe.. she actually meant to save you... Either way, it made you feel a little fuzzy inside. Even if it wasn't intentional, she still saved you. And that was enough for you
