Neil is dead. He was found dead in his bedroom, foaming at the mouth. It was poison and in his hand was the paper he'd received from Eric. Two words. KILL GREYSON.
I sit in my chair staring at where Neil used to seat. I have known Neil since my childhood, and one thing I knew was his obsession with me. He'd he was no different from his cousin, Loewe pastures who'd passed away. The fact that Neil was told to kill Greyson was mystery. It is obvious that Eric needed someone to get their hand dirty for him. And Neil didn't do it? What was eric's motive? Is there anyone still yet to die?
"Neil was a good guy" Greyson says to me "he just couldn't stand the pressure."
"He was going to kill you" I reply.
Greyson winces at that and says nothing more.
Audrey sits quietly in a corner. Most of our classes have been suspended to allow us recover from the tragedy. I wonder why we still came to school though. We were all subconsciously avoiding staying at home alone, it gave the killer greater access. It could be any of us, Greyson, Audrey, Felix or even me. Everyone had something against someone else.
"What was on the paper Eric gave you?" Audrey asks Felix. Her voice is low and cracking. Felix looks at her but doesn't reply. He plays with his fingers on the table. Audrey is seething. she seems to know something that we don't know.
"Felix" she yells.
"For the Lord' sake let me be" Felix snaps "what was on yours?". Audrey doesn't reply, she falls back into her seat and sulks. Greyson looks at me the same question dancing in his eyes. It was obvious that if anyone stated what the dare said, the case would be solved but then was that worth revealing our secrets? no. It was a matter of time before Ricki started asking questions about the note. The closing bell rings and none of us make a move to leave. The stares of fellow students are very uncomfortable. Audrey leaves once the hallway is cleared out.
"Are you free tonight?" Felix whispers to me.
I look at him in surprise but nod none the less. "Meet at the rooftop at 10 pm" he says and walks away. Greyson stares at us talking. I say nothing as I turn and head for Delvin's car. He is waiting already.
"How was school today?" he asks. I give him a thumbs up and force a smile. school is no longer fun. We enter the car and Delvin drives off. He usually plays music but this time he doesn't, he looks at me occasionally as though I would disappear any second.
"What?" I finally ask.
"i know what happened can be traumatizing and if u need someone to talk to, I'm here for you" he assures with a broad smile.
"Thanks Del" he hates the nickname, so he scrunches up his face in fake annoyance. He parks the car in the driveway and we both head into the house, I hear loud voices and look at Delvin in confusion. We aren't expecting any visitors, and neither are the household staff that noisy. We walk slowly into the kitchen where the noise is coming from and I freeze, finally seeing the owner of that voice. Its been 7 months since we saw him last. Since he bothered to show his face. It was our dad.
