One by one the baby piglets were pulled off their mothers teats and forced onto a long runway into the humming truck. They were all crying from fear, of the unknown and being taken from their mothers. Once in the dark airless truck they huddled together the best they could trying to seek comfort from one another. More and more were packed in until some of them were even forced on top of one another crushing the smaller below them. And then a sliding metal door slammed shut cutting off all light. The stench of urine, feces and fear was overwhelmimg. Then movement as the truck rumbled down the road taking the young pigs to their new fate. Reaching the main road, the truck accelerated smoothly along. What was the fate of a pig? Once it would have been to live out the rest of their short lives getting fat on a factory farm. To one day fill humans freezers and bellies. But that day, a rogue deer would change their fate forever, as well as that of the humans around them. The truck sped along. The driver eager for the return trip home to his family. His son often begged him to sneak a baby pig home to him for a pet. He scoffed at this. In his opinion, pigs were stupid, smelly creatures whose only purpose was to be smoked or roasted. Sipping his steaming cup of coffee, he guided the truck expertly around the curves through the woods. The local radio stations in this area were sparse and the pop music blaring through the speakers was not exactly to his liking. He looks down for only a moment to find something more to his taste. Looking up, he finds a large 8 point buck frantically trying to race out of the way of the speeding truck. He turn the wheel desperately trying to avoid scrambling deer, when the right tire of his truck hits the edge of the pavement and falls onto loose gravel. He felt himself lose all control of the truck as it flipped over onto it's side, careening down an embankment into the woods. The frightened baby piglets screamed in terror and pain as they were thrown about the enclosure in the back. The truck came to rest, narrowly missing a large oak that stood at the edge of the woods. In all the jostling, the lock worked it's way loose. The door fell open with a thud flooding the piglets in a bright light. What was the fate of these piglets? The whole town would soon find out.
