Driving wasn't as bad, besides having to stop, but after a while I started to day dream about what I could be doing if it wasn't for the Project. Before I knew it, my shift was done and I could sleep, I couldn't really find sleep as easy, but after I shut my eyes we were pulling into a little shack of a building. I gathered we were in Columbus, Georgia from Michael. "How much longer until we get there. I can't take much more driving or doing nothing." I say hoping out of the passenger side of the truck.
"Yeah me neither, but we have about an hour or less." Zayn says also getting out.
"So why are we stopping?" I ask looking at Liam as he exits the passenger side.
"We need more gas." Liam answers leaning against the passenger side door.
"And to stretch." Zayn quickly adds in.
I shake my head in agreement as I look where we are, it was an old corner store where there were no cars or anything near by, "How are we supposed to get gas from a non-existent vehicle?" I ask turning around to look on the other side of the road.
"There is a truck right there." Michael says looking at me.
I turn back around and look in the parking lot, there was an old beaten up truck sitting in the lot by the building. "I didn't even see that." I said staring at it. "I'm still groggy." I explain when he doesn't look away.
"It's not like it could just appear out of no where." Niall said shrugging and walking passed me.
"Did you hear that?" Michael asks turning around quickly.
"And I'm the crazy one." I said rolling my eyes and walking away.
"No, I heard it too." Liam chimed in.
"Yeah, it sounded like-" Zayn was cut off by the shrieks of the Runners.
"Runners." I say mortified and beginning to shake, not just in fear of them, but in fear of not having a refuge against them.
"We have to hide, we don't have any gas to get away." Liam said looking around.
"What about the store?" Niall said looking over to the small building.
"Go." Michael says and we begin to sprint to the old store.
"What if there are more of them?" I ask everyone out of breath.
"I would rather risk it." Zayn said slowing slightly to push the glass doors open.
We all got inside and looked around. "Oh my God, that smells like-" Michael says looking around.
"-death." I finish. "It smells like death."
"Niall, Michael, you two go take care of the bodies." Liam instructs. "Audrey, take a look around for any more of them, take the gun." He said as I turn around to grab the gun from Mikey.
"How about I do that and you and her cover the doors and windows." Zayn suggests reaching for the gun.
"Yeah that's fine." Liam says turning around to look at all the shelves. "We could probably move these against the door." He suggests after everyone else is doing what they were told.
"Sounds good, but what if we need to run out." I said looking at the glass doors.
"Good point, but maybe there is a back door we can just bar or something in case." He said looking towards the back. There was a loud bang like a gun going off. "Mate, you alright?" Liam says beginning to walk to the back.
"Yeah, just one of those things. There was only one though." Zayn said walking back to the front.
"Okay, come help us then." Liam said turning back around. "Audge, could you go on the side and push." Liam said grabbing one side of the shelf and pulling.
"Should I get the windows?" Zayn asked as we moved the shelf to the door.
"Yeah."
"What about the back door?" Zayn asked climbing on one of the shelves to get to the window.
"We are just going to have to lock it and hope." Liam said looking at his work.
"We should put a sheet over the glass, so the light doesn't show through at night." I said grabbing a box of sheets and throwing it up at Zayn.
"Good idea." Liam said grabbing a sheet from the box I was holding.
"What kind of corner store has sheets." Zayn said hopping down from the shelf.
"Bargains Benz." I said looking at the side of the box and throwing the box back.
"Quite strange." Liam agreed.
