Chapter 14

So.. am I right? Or... am I right?"
Karma does a half eating grin at the mass Murderer before him.

Light frowns a bit and glares at Karma
"Let's keep moving. Otherwise, we'll get eaten alive out here."

"Guess someone doesn't wanna face the truth," Mello says and smirks. "Hmm, I just realized something. What happened to your guy's bike?" Matt says with both his hands in his pockets. "Ran out of gas"
Asano shrugs and simply says.

Near let's out a short yawn. "The sun is setting.." Watari looks down at him from his side."I think it's time we take a break and rest till morning."Yes, that would be more efficient," L says

25 minutes later, they eventually find a secure place to rest that meaning to be a convenience store. Mello and Matt ended up sleeping on the floor sitting together against a sturdy old wall with a jacket draped over them selves as a blanket.

Near starts to fall asleep in between Karma and Asano drowsiness now, taking a toll on his body.

Light ends up sitting outside on a wooden old bench staring up at the stars in the sky. "He figured you out." A voice similar to Light's says. "That's just half of it. It doesn't mean anything."
"Oh but it does.. sooner or later, they'll see right through you. " Light looks to the right to see his other self smiling at him. "Just leave me alone." "You know I can't do that, we are one in the same. We are stuck together.
You should know that better than anyone, you made me for purposes like this."

L walks outside and sits beside Light in his usual perch, with his knees held up against his chest, in light's cognitive selves place. After some silence L breaks it "was what he said true?" Light couldn't say anything except nod his head Yes "you never said anything before" L says again with his annoying monotone voice Light says in his head.

"You never asked."

"I didn't know I needed to"

"You don't know anything"

"I know everything"

"No you don't"

"Yes I do"

"Don't lie"

"Why would I lie to my one and
only friend?"

After that sentence Light became quiet.
"You lie to get your way" Light mutters under his breath with gritted teeth but L heard it. "You sure that isn't you?" L says tilting his head while looking at Light.
"I.. I don't know" Light tilts his head down looking at the dirt beneath his feet. "No matter the consequences I always hold my word towards you Light-kun" "he's lying" Light looked to
his left" "Don't believe everything he says" "The only reason I never had you executed was so I could help you."
Light looks back to his right to see L speaking softly towards the ground.
"And I genuinely care for you"

Silence can only be heard between the two and the slight gurgling noises from the Undead. "What is it you want to know?" L simply smiles at his question, and they both begin to speak to each other in a way other's can't understand.
Inaudible voices could be heard within the two.

After the next few days, the eight group members seem to have gotten along quite well. Yes, a lot of arguments here and there happened every so often, and they all learned each other's traits.

"You're now letting me off the cuffs?"
Light says a bit confused and has a shocked look on his face. "Well, of course.. you have improved greatly these past few days." L says, unlocking the Cuffs from his wrists.

Soft elegant violin and guitar music play in the background.

Light's eyes shine from the sunlight, and he smiles a bit at being grateful for this littlest bit of freedom.

"Yeah, now you can protect yourself,"

The music immediately cuts off

"We don't have to help you anymore."

"You slowed us down a lot,"

"Yep! And now you can pick up the pace
And stop dragging your feet."

"Imagine... a grown man letting us kids do all the hard work"

Light grows angrier by the second at every little jab the 5 kids say to him.
"Don't say all the stuff and then make it seem like I'm a damsel in distress!!"
The four of them just start laughing at his outburst while Near just smiles.

"Hey guys, look up ahead," Karma states, pointing at a shopping center.
Mello and Matt look up ahead, and Mello smirks. "Race ya," Mello then takes off towards their next destination.

Matt takes off after him. "Ey, wait up!" Karma shouts, running up behind Matt.
Watari yells at them to be careful.
L just sighs while Light shakes his head and then looks down at Near.
"You going to follow them?" He asks.
"No.. I'd rather not, I'm not as fast as them." Light just nods head.
"Well, I better join them.. I wouldn't want Karma to indanger himself. "
Asano says to the remaining four and then runs after the three.

As soon as the others get down to the shopping center, they open the blurred glass door and head inside. "Augh.. disgusting  smells like something died in here, " Light says, pinching his nose."Something probably did, " L says, looking around at the deserted place.
they soon find two certain strawberry blonde and red head in a book store. Karma looks up from checking out a comic book that was roughly thrown from somewhere off a shelf.

"Hey, m&m are in the convenience store." He says, pointing across from them. Everyone else who is present does their own thing, looking around for mainly supplies until. "Hey guys!?! Come, quick!" Mello yells at the others to show them what he and Matt found in the back room. L walks ahead first, and everyone else follows behind him and looks at the scene before him.

Asano walks in between the others to get a better view, and when he looks at what's in front of him, his eyes widen
as he lets out a small gasp.
A fifteen year old boy with blue short hair and wearing a middle school uniform lay coldly on the floor.

"Karma..." Asano says his name. In a Whisper that is bearly to be heard.
Karma has almost the same expression as Asano's except to the fact he is crying silent tears. "S-sugino..." he lets his name of the boy on the ground slip from his dried lips.

Matt and Mello look over to Karma and have a look of sympathy, and they both put a hand on Asano's shoulder while still looking at Karma. Light grabs ahold of Near's hand, which even surprises himself as it surprises Near, and he leads them outside of the store along with Matt, Mello, and Asano.

Watari looks over to L, and they both nod their head to each other. Watari turns Karma over to face him and embraces him into a hug. Karma allows it and sinks into the older man's arms.
Letting a few hiccups out as he tries to hold it all in. Watari leads Karma away from the "crime scene" while L starts to investigate what has happened.
