Since the dawn of time, humans have looked up to the sky and wondered what lay there, in their sight but out of reach. As technology developed, humanity reached the sky, breaking through it and finding space—joining the planets and moons and stars and the wide, inky black. They wondered if they were alone—a small speck of life surrounded by the dark cosmos of death—or if there were others out there; like them and nothing like them at all, also alive and wondering and learning and creating like them.

They were both wrong and right—in a sense—for The Universe was alive; She was a being of no form, yet great, unparalleled power. There was no force in Her that could defeat Her. The Universe watched; watched the planets spin and stars explode and black holes consume. She watched planets from and stars be reborn. She watched as Earth was made—a strange yet amusing anomaly of a thing, one where little foolish things by the name of humans thought themselves to be the supreme beings of the world. They assumed that The Universe revolved around their planet, and they thought droughts were a punishment from angry gods. They quickly began to learn, adapt, create; though The Universe tired of watching them. She took no interest in the new way humans planted their food, or how they cured another disease.

That was, until She saw him. It was love at first sight; a sweet, warming thing that seemed to light up even the darkest corners of Her. She felt like a star—falling for him, to him, every time he looked up at the sky.

The Universe loves Izuku.

She loves his bright, beaming smile. His wide, dewy eyes. His beautiful soul and beautiful heart, filled with so much love it overflows out of him; freckles dusting over his skin, bringing all Her stars to shame.

The Universe loves Izuku more than anything else, and Izuku loves Katsuki.

The Universe hates Katsuki.

The Universe hates how Katsuki is the first thought that comes to Izuku's mind in the morning. She hates his prideful grin when Izuku praises him with star-struck eyes, eyes that should be looking at Her, eyes that should love Her.

So the Universe whispers thoughts into Katsuki's mind; thoughts about his strength and courage and superiority. She watches with little remorse as Katsuki begins to insult and berate her beloved Izuku. This pain will be worth it, my beloved, she whispers. You'll come to me once you realize I'm the only one you need.

Izuku doesn't come to the Universe. He continues to chase after Katsuki, calling out to him with that sickeningly sweet nickname.

The Universe forces Katsuki's eyes to Izuku's name, drenching him in invisible poison; pride, arrogance, ego. "Deku. That must be what you call a helpless loser who's totally useless."

Despite the insulting name, Izuku refuses to take his eyes off of Katsuki. He continues to chase after him, watching him from afar with all-encompassing awe and adoration and pure, unfiltered love that becomes fuel to the raging inferno of hatred The Universe holds for Katsuki. She grabs the hot, searing coals of her hatred; crumbles them into fine powder and uses it to coat Katsuki's lungs—let it seep into his veins, stain his bloodstream. She lets it fill Katsuki's eyes—the red ones that Her beloved viridian always seeks out—with bone-deep loathing, the kind that makes eyes harden from innocent teasing to malicious mocking, makes palms spark with violent distaste instead of tender excitement, makes words go from sweet to bitter.
