MATCH 3: SPAIN V COSTA RICA
The first match against Brazil kicked off and Y/N was a LW for the match. The first action was in the 15th minute where Brazil's striker had a wonderful ball played in by the CM at the RW which they converted easily making it 1-0. The next action was in the 38th where Y/N crossed it into the RW who put an easy finish wide somehow making Y/N a little mad. In the 40th minute after the counter attack was taking place after the narrow miss, Brazil had been awarded a free kick at the edge of the box which they hit off the crossbar and then getting the rebound off of the miss and scoring into the bottom corner. Right before half in the 45th, the Spanish Women's keeper had been up for a corner and then the counter attack took place where Brazil's CB launched it from half lobbing the keeper who was already way too far into Brazil's own box. 3-0, HALFTIME. In the 55th minute, Spain had been awarded a corner which was headed into the bottom corner, however the keeper making a spectacular save and getting a fingertip to it making it an easy clear for the RB. As the ball was cleared up the pitch, somehow Brazil's striker did a Neymar type touch and outpaced the Spanish RB and easily shot it into the back of the net to make it 4-0. In the 76th minute, Y/N again was running down the pitch and made a spectacular pass to the Spanish striker who somehow put an easy tap in over the crossbar by miles. In the 87th minute, Brazil's RB ran through the Spanish defense and crossed it into the Brazillian LB who volleyed it into the top corner to make it 5. In 90+2, Brazil's striker had broken through once again and had a simple finish into the net. 6-0, FULLTIME.
Y/N POV
As I walked off the pitch, my face buried into my shirt in embarrassment overall. At the end of the day, I was very disappointed. Not even because we lost, because we got battered. My teammates were missing shots after my passes, just an overall mess. I guess we had really been humbled after all.
The next match kicked off against Canada, Y/N was starting today as a striker which was very unusual for her but she wanted to see how it went. In the 11th minute, Y/N was passed a spectacular through ball from her left back which she chipped the keeper and made it 1-0. In the 32nd minute, Canada had been awarded a corner after a block from a Spain CB. As the ball was crossed in, one of Canada's CBs jumped over everyone and headed the ball into the top right corner to make it 1-1. In the 44th minute, Y/N lobbed a pass through to the CM who was able to convert it and had made it 2-1 at halftime. In the 72nd minute, Canada had a chance which they barely missed having the keeper tipping it slightly over the bar. In the 82nd minute, Spain had been awarded a penalty which could win them the game and Y/N was taking it.
Y/N POV
As I placed the ball down onto the penalty spot, the Canadian keeper came up to me saying they knew me. I hate to admit I was nervous, but I was. I did my usual small steps penalty run up as the keeper faked a dive to the right and made me shoot to the left using essential mind games. The Canadian keeper dived left and saved the penalty where they then got in my face and yelled stuff at me which they received a yellow card for when I just snickered.
GAME POV
It was all over at the 90th and it was a 2-1 win despite the saved penalty by Canada and next was the last group stage match.
The next game was against Costa Rica, Y/N was playing as a LM today interestingly enough. In the 11th minute, Spain's CM put a ball into the RW who scored it into the top corner. In the 32nd minute, Y/N had been awarded a free kick and was taking it from long ways out. Y/N shot it and her boot hit the ball with insane power blasting it into the top corner from far. 2-0, HALFTIME. Y/N had a chance right after kickoff which she converted from the left side and made it 3-0. In the 68th minute, Y/N had another chance after dribbling past Costa Rica's entire defense then dribbling past the keeper and having an easy goal to make it 4. In the 82nd minute, Costa Rica's striker had a good through ball played into him which he scored to make it 4-1. 4-1, FULLTIME.
