(A/N: Completely ignore the missing 6 chapters. The fantasy arc is gone. It seemed like the general consensus was to return to the slice of life formula that made the book popular to begin with, so here we are.)

Tensions in the house were on the rise lately. It seemed like every other interaction was an argument that you and Monic had to break up, and it was honestly tiring you out, physically and mentally. The only time the girls were amicable are when they share your bed. Shock.

Your vision returns to you as the early morning light paints the room in a soft blue glow. Motioning your head sideways, the red glare of an alarm clock meets your vision.

It was just before sunrise, and you honestly didn't feel like going back to sleep, so with one large push, you jumped out of bed, the cold sensation of the floor on your bare feet sending shivers up your legs as you headed for the closet.

Another thing to note was how your bed was empty, which was an unusual occurrence in itself, but you just shrugged it off and threw on your running clothes, heading for the door.

You felt a familiar presence from beyond your bedroom door, but shrugging it off, you swing it open to reveal Luci partway through opening the door herself. Your eyes meet and widen in response at seeing the other.

(Y/N): "Luci? What are you doing up this early?"

A faint blush crept onto her ashen cheeks as she glanced down to the floor, refusing to make eye contact again. Had you caught her in the act of climbing into bed with you?

Luci: "I didn't realise you were awake..."

(Y/N): "I shouldn't be, but I can't sleep. You?"

Luci: "The same.."

Her words were short and apprehensive. You could tell she was having an internal battle to tell you something, but not wanting to push, you opted to grab her hand instead..

(Y/N): "Come on. We're going for a walk."

Luci: "O-okay..."

The two of you make your way through desolate house, reaching the stairs. Feeling a tap on your shoulder, you turn to face Luci, who brings a claw up to her lips, motioning for you to be quiet.

The last thing she wanted right now was for someone else to tag along.

So that's what you did. Creeping down the stairs, you both reach the bottom with no problem, only to hear a faint snoring sound emanating from the living room. Peeking your head around the corner, you spot both Petra and Scath sound asleep on the couch, the ending to Black Adam playing on the large TV screen.

The sight was adorable, truth be told.

(Y/N): "Movie so terrible it knocked out an inter-dimensional witch."

You heard Luci stifle a giggle as she intertwined her claws with your fingers again, dragging you towards the door and out into the cool morning air.

This time, you take point on your walk, following the same trail that you run every morning. You had something to show Luci anyway.

(Y/N): "So what's up? You seem more disconnected than usual."

Her eyes partially widen at the question.

Luci: "It's... nothing."

(Y/N): "Oh really? The last time I saw you so speechless was when you finished Red Dead Redemption 2."

Out of the corner of your vision, you see her frown, causing you to laugh.

(Y/N): "No, seriously, what's up?"

With a loud huff, she finally cracks.

Luci: "Do you remember when we first met?"

(Y/N): "Yeah, I do, why?"

Luci: "I was in such a terrible place, being homeless AND a monster is pretty much the worst combination to have, but you took me in all the same."

Staying silent, you just let her vent, hands still intertwined. Since she was a hellhound, the heat she was giving off was relaxing in contrast to the breezy morning wind.

Luci: "And I can't help but think about how perfect it all was back then."

(Y/N): "Back then?"

Luci: "Just the two of us, I mean. Before you took in Kat, and everyone else."

Huh? What was she getting at?

Luci: "Don't get me wrong, I can tolerate the others. It's always nice having those like me around."

(Y/N): "I'm sensing a but."

Luci: "But, it's not the same."

Taking in her words, the two of you continue to follow the path up the hill. Trees lining either side of the dirt path as the branches gently swayed under the presence of the wind, the leaves rustling.

(Y/N): "What do you mean?"

Luci: "Ugh, you're so dense! I mean, we rarely hang out like we used to."

Did she feel neglected? Is that what she was getting at?

(Y/N): "I get you. The last 2 years have been... interesting, to say the least. I just wish you'd told me sooner how you felt."

Luci: "It's kinda hard when Apophis has you on a leash, or you're constantly cleaning up Scathach's failed experiments."

(Y/N): "Hey, you and Kat aren't angels either."

She averts her gaze back to the floor as you both reach the summit of the hill. The area opened up into a clearing, giving you a stunning view of the city in the distance and the nature surrounding it.

(Y/N): "Come on, I wanna show you something."

Leading her into the clearing, you approach a perfectly placed bench as the two of you sit. Checking your watch, a small smile takes hold.

(Y/N): "It's almost time."

Luci: "For what?"

(Y/N): "You'll see. Anyways, I'm sorry you feel that way. You should've told me sooner. I try my best to split my attention between all of you equally, it's just harder sometimes."

Luci: "Which is why I didn't say anything. I see how much of an effort you make for all of us, and I can't help but feel guilty for feeling like this."

You wrap an arm around her shoulder and pull her towards you. Leaning in, she rests her head against your chest.

(Y/N): "You shouldn't feel guilty, Luci. You all really don't understand how much I care. You guys mean the world to me. Hell, I'd pretty much do anything for you."

You feel her nod in response before a comfortable silence takes hold. Gazing out into the distance, you spot the sun beginning to rise, slowly painting the area in a faint orange glow.

(Y/N): "There it is..."

Luci: "It's beautiful."

You glance down to her.

(Y/N): "Yeah, it is."

Averting your gaze back to the horizon, you both take in the scenery, basking in each others company. After what felt like hours, but was only around 10 minutes, you felt Luci tugging at your shirt.

Luci: "(Y/N)?"

(Y/N): "Hm, yeah?"

Looking back over to her, your (E/C) eyes meet her fiery orange orbs as she pounces on you, your lips connecting. It was passionate and earnest, and you could tell that she'd been waiting a while to do it. Wrapping your arms around her back, she reciprocates by wrapping hers around your neck, pulling the two of you closer.

But alas, the need for oxygen trumps passion as she pulls away, eyes practically shining.

(Y/N): "Wow..."

Luci: "You have no idea how long I've waited to do that..."

(Y/N): "I have a pretty good idea."

Pulling her close again, the two of you embrace.
