[Weapon Summons]
You can summon weapons developed and produced up to 1973.It's fortunate enough of a culture shock for the first-time drinker's assortment of the lavish tradition as lightweights — granted the world's definition of lightweight was similar to Kazuya's world and his tolerance — to accompany the steak that looked as expensive as their culture, like a Westerner fancying the waltz or any ballroom dancing as the culture of the peasantry instead of the privileged elites.
Ganging up on his liver with Tylenol seemed like a possibility if worse came to worst. But with his ability, he made do.
"Miss Lautrec, I've been meaning to ask something."
"What is it?"
Still, there are times when reason endured, much more as the things on someone's mind for a while. How addicting it was; the high one got from releasing the weight of one's shoulders. It's a wonder why alcohol paved the way for loose lips.
"Why go so far for someone like me?"
"What do you mean?"
You know what I mean.
"Giving me a chance, fixing my clothes, buying me clothes! You can't possibly believe I could repay those alone."
"Would you believe me if it was just the spur of the moment?"
"No," you're better than that.
But if the alcohol's still there, maybe there's a chance. The Duchess sat back, getting cozier.
"You know, why don't you enjoy and be thankful for benefiting from a noble's whim?"
"I wouldn't set this as a precedent."
The Duchess snickered. "Then how about we play a game? If you can guess the reason, I'll answer your question."
Kazuya would've assumed it as the drunken quibble of an overworked salarywoman letting loose. But her eyes betrayed her. Drinking wine with the woman whose lips he stole, easing all troubling thoughts with alcohol...
"This is all a test for a simple person to bow and comply."
It was all too good to be true. He'd have more problems if the flagbearer of Canary's last bulwark shrugged off something he'd get executed ten times over. Even his power reprimanded her amidst the concern Kazuya brought upon himself.
He sat back, looking anywhere but at her. It could be Kazuya's empathy acting up. It didn't matter. Someone took charge for once. He doesn't have to impose his authority.
It was relaxing.
"Don't take this the wrong way, Kazuya. You can't trust anyone these days, not even your own. My father paid the price for it."
"I'm not putting it against you, Your Grace. After all, I did all this to satisfy myself. And I want to thank you for humoring it."
"Are you that dense?"
"They say ignorance is bliss, so others prefer to be none the wiser."
The Duchess leaned forward. "If you know more than what you're feigning, reconsider your chances outside my influence. The knight you struck belongs to a house that has protected the Royal Family for generations. If it goes unpunished, that vendetta will come to bite you wherever you go. But it doesn't have to be like that."
Let alone staying safe under the pretense of enjoying a noble's whim, "Do you mean to use me as a way to ward him from any advances?"
"Even if I did, what else can you do alone?"
