(El turns her head towards him and turns back slowly)
El (quietly): yes?
Mike: I just want to thank you.
(El frowned to herself, confused)
El: for what?
Mike: For commissioning the painting.
El: painting?
(she faced him)
Mike (grinning): yeah. The one Will did...
I think it made me realize that I needed to tell you that and reminded me that you would never give up on me. I think I was just scared. I didn't want to loose you, like I thought I did before.
El (curious): right...
Mike: I mean Will did an amazing job on it, I think it's the best thing he's ever created. He also said that I make you feel good for being different...
(El slightly frowns)
and that you would always need me. It totally changed my whole perspective with what was going on and by then I knew by then, I should have told you sooner.
El (quizzing): told me what?
Mike: you know...
(slightly hesitant)
that 'I love you'.
(El is disappointed and looks away)
El: so you still find it difficult...
to say I love you...
to me?
Mike: uh, no. I mean, I just said it then.
(El sighs)
El: only once I pushed. you have never told me 'I love you' when I'm actually looking into your eyes.

(El waits and gives Mike time to say 'I love you' directly to her, eye-to-eye)
...
(Silence passes)
El (voice shaking): ok.
(she turns away from him, focusing on the items on the counter)
...
(Mike is standing there, a guilty expression on his face)
El: I didn't ask Will to make any painting.
And I didn't tell him to say whatever he said to you in the van.
(frustrated and looks at him)
If I needed to tell you something, I would have said it right to your face, or sent a letter. I don't need a messenger, I can do that myself.
Mike: what? so you didn't know about any of this?
El (broken) : no Mike!
(Mike is confused)
The only painting I know that Will was working on was top secret, at least to me it was. It was the one I wrote about in my letter to you before you came back to Hawkins. The one I thought was for a girl...
(spiteful) Or did you not read that either?
Mike: what are you talking about? I read every letter you sent me!
El: but you don't value what I have to say. It's obvious.
Mike: El, what are you saying?
(Walks closer to her)
Of course I care about what you say and how you feel! Why are you putting the blame on me?
(El narrows her eyes)
El: I'm not blaming you for anything, unlike what you do to me.
(Mike scoffs)
El: I suggest you talk to Will and leave me alone.
(begins to walk out)
Mike: Wait! Where are you going? We're not finished here!
El: I'm going to meet Max.
(disappointed) Bye Mike.
(Mike is left standing there in disabelief)
