Matt awoke to Melody's voice calling his name. He opened his eyes for a few seconds and saw her leaning above him. He smiled, before closing his eyes and going back to sleep.
"Come on Matt! You need to wake up," Melody said, gently pushing him to his side.
He groaned, leaning up on one shoulder to look at Melody. She had baggy eyes and frizzled hair from the previous night. It fell over her shoulders in waves. She had a slight smile on her face.
Matt stared at her lovingly, before suddenly remembering the previous night's events and standing up to face her.
"What time is it?" Matt asked, groggily. He could see a faint glimmer of light on the horizon through Melody's window.
"It's eight in the morning. Lia spent the night with Aditya since I'd be going out yesterday, but she texted me that she'd be back any minute now. She'll never let you hear the end of it if she finds you here. That's why you have to go!"
She began pulling him by the arm towards the door but heard a sound from downstairs.
"I'm back," Lia yelled from downstairs.
They scrambled, wondering what to do. Melody suddenly turned to face Matt.
"You'll have to go out the window," she said. Before Matt could answer she walked over to the window and turned the latch, lifting it. She turned to stare at him in anticipation.
"Wait, is there no other way out?" he whispered.
They heard Lia's footsteps coming up the stairs. Matt's eyes widened.
"Hey Melody, you didn't happen to grab the key from below the welcome mat, did you?" Lia asked from outside.
Matt reached into his pants pocket and pulled the key out, handing it to Melody.
"Ok, I'll go," he whispered, walking to the window and sitting on the ledge. He turned towards Melody.
"When can I see you again?" he asked.
"Come pick me up in two hours," she whispered hurriedly as her doorknob turned open.
Matt let himself fall out the window, landing softly on a bush below. He picked some leaves off his hair, getting up.
"Who were you talking to?" he heard Lia asking from upstairs.
"No one, I was just singing to myself," Melody replied coolly.
Matt skipped away quietly before running full speed toward his apartment. His head was still spinning from the alcohol, but he made it back quickly. He arrived, running up the stairs inside.
His apartment was empty aside from some quiet chatter coming from Diego's room. Peter was nowhere in sight. Matt remembered he'd had a second date the night before.
Guess he got lucky, Matt thought to himself, grinning.
He took a shower and ate a quick breakfast. He sat at the dining table eating cereal, considering all the places he could take Melody. He really didn't mind where they'd be going, so long as they were together. He was just happy to be spending time with her. They could sit on the couch and talk all day, as far as he was concerned.
He got a text from Melody telling him she was ready to head out. She asked him to bring his car. He replied he would and finished his breakfast, leaving the house and driving the short distance to Melody's house.
He texted her he'd arrived once outside her house, waiting for her to come out. He sat waiting, his hands on the wheels, before she finally appeared at her front door.
