Here, There, and Everywhere

A month passed, and Matt and Melody found themselves sitting together at Peter and David's wedding, holding hands. They sat quietly while the reception went on around them.

Peter and David finished their short speech and kissed, the crowd cheering. The music came on, and Matt's parents could be seen dancing, laughing, and tossing their heads back in joy.

Lia and Aditya sat next to Matt and Melody, both of them laughing at Matt's parents, who took no notice. They continued dancing in joy, unbothered by the stares of the people around them.

Mr. And Mrs. Fragoso sat at the table next to Matt and Melody's, smiling throughout. They'd been saddened to hear about Sadie's actions and felt burdened by the fact that it was a direct cause of Joey's death.

"Joey would never have wanted this to happen," Mrs. Fragoso had said. "I'm glad that his scholarship was able to indirectly prevent Matt's death."

They'd replaced Lia's car completely out of pocket and apologized to Matt, who felt there was no need for an apology.

"I'm sure Joey's proud of the fine young people you and Melody turned out to be," Mrs. Fragoso had said.

This statement touched Matt and Melody deeply.

In the month that passed, they resumed seeing each other daily and started dating once again.

They would spend their days under a large oak tree beside the pond in the park, Matt running his hand gently through Melody's hair as the breeze blew past, carrying away their worries. They felt at peace once more, able to contend with the burdens of the past.

They didn't talk much, preferring to sit in silence, the soft sounds of the park filling their ears. Matt would occasionally see a hummingbird flying around, and he would stare at it in wonder with a smile on his face.

Matt and Melody had no idea what the future had in store for them. They only knew they had one. At times their trauma would rear its ugly head in the form of panic attacks, but they would be there to comfort and reassure each other.

Matt continued going to work and school, donating to charity, and visiting the elderly. He invited Melody to join him, to which Melody eagerly agreed. They would alternate between doing community service and visiting the elderly, the two of them as inseparable as before.

All their friends were glad to see them back together after all they'd been through, especially Lia. She continued feeling guilty for not believing Matt when he first came to her with the accusations against Sadie, but they had finally hugged it out one day, setting aside their differences and seeing each other as friends once more.

Peter and David had finally finished all the preparations for their wedding and had given them the invitations soon after Matt and Melody reunited. They'd prepared it to be on a grassy venue on a hill, in a nearby field of open land.

It was here that Matt and Melody found themselves, sitting silently hand in hand, the sun shining gently down on them, showering them with its gentle rays. The sky was clear and the wind blew softly. It felt like something out of a dream.

Matt and Melody were more hopeful than ever for what the future had in store for them. They'd soon be graduating, and from there, anything could happen. Whatever the case, they knew they'd be happy so long as they had each other. Nothing could come between them ever again.

A silent melody came on and Matt stood, extending his hand out to Melody.

"May I have this dance?" he asked.

"You may," Melody said, smiling as she took his hand.

They walked to the center of the dance floor, where they stood, dancing slowly. Tears flowed from both of their eyes as they held each other tightly, their warmth enveloping them in a sweet embrace.

"I have something for you."

Matt pulled the heart-shaped necklace out of his pocket and wrapped his arms around Melody, clasping it softly around her neck. It rested softly on her chest. Melody smiled back at Matt as they continued dancing.

Matt suddenly made eye contact with Melody, the world stopping around them.

"You look great," Matt said, smiling.

"Thanks, I'm glad you noticed," Melody said, smiling back warmly.

Their hearts beat softly in unison as the song continued. They were now dancing among the stars, nothing else on their minds but each other's presence. Shooting stars flew past in the space around them, illuminating their eyes in their gentle glow. They leaned their heads on each other's shoulders, happy to be together.

The song changed, and the world reappeared around them. They turned to look as Peter and David got back up on the stage, bouquet in hand, the small group cheering them on. Matt and Melody turned to look at each other and smiled in understanding.

Peter suddenly threw the bouquet, everyone watching as it soared through the air, before it landed on Melody's arms, everyone cheering.

Matt laughed and embraced Melody in his outstretched arms, lifting her and spinning her around, the two of them smiling, before he set her gently back down, wrapping his arms around her.

Two hummingbirds flew past, soaring into the eternal blue sky, as Matt and Melody kissed, never to part again.
