"music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent"
A couple of days after the enlightening lesson on dynamics, she finds herself almost constantly thinking about him. Her mind replays their interactions, their lessons, and the subtle shifts in their dynamics.
It's almost as if he's become a permanent fixture in her thoughts, a presence she can't quite shake off.
She's been diligently practicing in her free time, determined to improve with each passing day. The basics have become more second nature to her, and it's a relief to see her tutor nod in approval as her fingers move more confidently over the keys. The tension that once gripped her has eased, replaced by a growing sense of comfort.
Gone are her days of playing notes in complete isolation, like a hesitant robot. Now, her playing has a bit of fluidity to it, and she's grown accustomed to his essence beside her.
The scent of his heavenly cologne and the feeling of his hands guiding hers have become familiar and oddly comforting.
Through numerous lessons, she realizes that her thoughts often wander to the details that make her music tutor who he is. She reflects on the intensity of his cat-like gaze as he watches her play, the way his brows furrow when he's focused, and the rare smiles he bestows upon her. Those smiles, she realizes, hold an extra layer of warmth that makes her heart skip a beat or two.
It's funny how she's come to anticipate Thursdays with a mix of excitement and a fluttering in her stomach. She's grown used to his presence, the way he sits beside her, offering guidance and encouragement. There's something about his proximity that makes her feel oddly at ease, even as her heart races a bit faster than usual.
One day, unable to contain her thoughts any longer, she spills her feelings to her best friend, Kim Taehyung. She explains the persistent butterflies that seem to inhabit her stomach whenever she sees him.
Taehyung listens with an amused smile, his eyes rolling playfully. "You do realize you're describing a crush, right?" he says, a teasing tone in his voice.
She shakes her head, a blush creeping up her cheeks. "No, no, it's not like that. He's just my music tutor."
Taehyung arches a thick eyebrow in response, a knowing grin tugging at the corners of his lips. "Come on, you can't deny it. You obviously like the guy."
Her protest is weak, and she lets out an embarrassed laugh. "No, I don't. I mean, maybe I just enjoy the lessons."
Taehyung chuckles, leaning back in his seat. The two of them find themselves in the library, in the far corner at the back where no one else can hear them speak. "Enjoy the lessons, huh?" he asks, tapping his pencil against his bottom lip. "Is that why your face turns red every time you talk about him?"
She playfully swats at his arm, her blush deepening. "It's not like that. Besides, he's just a tutor."
She rolls her eyes, though her heart races at her own words. Her music tutor with his charming smile, with his perfect hair. Her music tutor with soft hands and deep chuckle...
The thought of the next lesson does indeed bring a slight blush to her cheeks, and she drums her fingers against the table in happy anticipation.
As she thinks back to the first day she started, she can't help but marvel at the journey they've taken. His initial annoyance and impatience have transformed into something entirely different. Now, he looks at her with a fondness that tugs at her heartstrings.
It's a strange feeling, one she can't quite put into words. Well, proper words, anyway. But she likes it - maybe even more than she's willing to admit. She continues to practice diligently, not just to improve her piano skills, but also to savour the moments they share each week.
She likes impressing him.
And as she navigates her way to their lessons, she finds herself constantly ducking and diving, avoiding her mother's inquiries. Luckily, her mother isn't always home much to notice.
For now, her mother remains blissfully unaware of the lessons and that's a secret she's determined to keep.
Taking a deep breath there in the library, she realizes that it's not just about learning to play the piano anymore. It's about discovering new emotions, unexpected connections, and the delightful feeling of butterflies that never seem to settle.
It's about finding joy in every note she plays and in every shared smile they exchange.
