I've been in Chennai for a week now. You know you won't be the same person you used to be after meeting new people, going to new places, and being in a new environment. You keep a safe distance from everyone else in order to avoid getting too close. You pause before speaking because you understand the power of words. So I used to spend most of my time alone. People call it arrogance, but it was simply mental healing. I was walking through the park one day. The weather was perfect. I saw someone who made me feel warm and fuzzy and gave me shivers. It was her brother. I froze for a second while sitting in the park feeding birds; it took me a moment to realise that everything that was happening was real. I gathered my courage and approached him.
He noticed me but did not react. I sat next to him, and he simply asked, "How did you get here?" I told him about the transfer, and he nodded and continued feeding the birds. I wanted to ask about her, but I couldn't for some reason.
Finally, I worked up the courage to ask him about her, but he said, "Don't, just don't ask about her, it's in the past, you don't have to do this again." I told him, "I just wanted to know if she still thinks about me," and I just left, promising him I'd never interfere in their lives again.
