Chapter 49- reunion

I put my bag in the back of the Audi and follow Rachel's car, she parks hers in her mums drive and I pull up in the street. I pull my bag from the car boot and follow Rachel to the door. She opens it and shouts "MUM I BOUGHT A GUEST". I hear footsteps on the landing and see Rachel's mum come down my stairs. "OH MY GOD REGGIE" she shrieks. She rushes over and wraps her arms around me. I wrap my arms around her. "May how are you?" I ask. She keeps hugging me. "I'm all okay son how are you" she says. Rachel chuckles. "Mum I think your crushing him" Rachel says. I smile weakly. That's when may realises the cuts on my face. "'My god are you ok?" She asks me. I smile and nod my head.

"Mostly aside from my now ex girlfriend cheating on me and well the cuts" I say. She smiles she then notices the bag next to me."have I got my two favourite kids staying with me" she says. I chuckle. "May I'd love to be your son but sadly I'm not" I say. May bursts out laughing and Rachel laughs. "Reggie you might as well be my son the amount of time you spent round our old house" she says. I chuckle remembering when me and Rachel where kids. "I don't think you've seen this house have you?" May asks me. I chuckle and shake my head. "I was here when you bought it mind you it looks quite different now" I say. May bursts out laughing. "Oh god your right you where here when I first bought it" she says

The girls take me upstairs and show me guest room. "Wow the house has changed a lot since I was last here" I say. May and Rachel burst out laughing. I place my bag in the room. "What does you kitchen look like?" I ask. Rachel smiles and may giggles. "Why do you ask?" May says. I smile. "I'll cook for you girls" I say. May chuckles. "Are you sure your the sane Reggie?" she says. I nod my head. We go downstairs and she shows me the kitchen. "I'll make dinner" I say.

I chuckle looking at the massive kitchen in front of me. Rachel sits on a stool across from me as I start to pull ingredients out of the fridge. I smile at Rachel. "You just gonna watch?" I ask her. She nods her head. "Mike said you where a wizard in the kitchen" she says. I chuckle as I melt some butter in a pan. "So what are you making chef" she says. I chuckle. "Oh nothing to strenuous just fish and chips." I say. Rachel's face lights up. I chuckle. "Yes I know your favourite" I say. She smiles at me. "Battered or no?" She says. I shake my head. "Nope batter will take to long" I say as I place the fish in the pan to cook. I then start to skin potatoes. "Yet you'll hand make chips" she says. I nod my head as I start to slice the potato up. "Oh course" I say.

Half an hour goes by of me cooking and chatting to Rachel before the food is finished. I carry two plates to the table and Rachel goes to get may as I grab the third plate. "Bloody hell that boy looks like he can cook" may says. I chuckle and bring the last plate through to the table and sit down. "Well what are you waiting for dig in" I say. Rachel and may start to eat and they look pleasantly surprised at how well I can cook. "Fucking hell he can cook?" May says. I chuckle. She turns to Rachel. "You where dating the wrong man" she says. I chuckle and so does Rachel. "Oh come off it I'm not that good a cook" I say. May and Rachel shake there heads. "God no your a brilliant cook" Rachel says. I chuckle. We eat the food and then I sit back. "The real question is can you bake desserts?" May asks me. I chuckle. "Never really tried making them" I say. She shakes her head. "You disappoint me Reggie" she says. I smile. She then turns to Rachel. "Rachel can make a good dessert" she says. Rachel's cheeks burn red. "Oh come on mum it wasn't that good" she says. I chuckle and may shakes her head. "That cheesecake you made for my birthday was to die for" she says. I chuckle and look at Rachel. "Teach me the art of desserts?" I ask her. Rachel chuckles and deliberates the decision. "Sure" she says eventually.

We all head up to our room at about eleven o'clock. We spent most of the night sat on the sofa chatting. It's been awhile since I had seen may given I went back home to Leeds. I start to undress for bed when there's a knock at my door. I go over and open the door and Rachel is stood there. "Oh shit sorry" she says when she's me without a shirt on. "Oh it's fine what's up" I say. She chuckles. "Can uh I come in" she says. I open the door and let her in. "What's up?" I ask her. She looks sad. "Mike" she says. I feel my mouth turn to an oh. "Um what about him?" I ask her. She sighs. "Has he really moved in to Meg" she says. A tear rolls down her cheek. I wrap my arms around her. "I'll be honest Rachel I couldn't tell you if they have got together or not but I can tell you that they defiantly seem attached" I say. She sighs. "I fucked up didn't I" she says. I try to comfort her. "Unfortunately yes but there's always a light at the end of the tunnel you've just gotta search for it" I say.
