Today was Mayahni's first day of 5th grade.
Mayahni made 2 friends that was actually there for her.
Ayana and Kymori.
Mayahni still wasn't comfortable with telling them what was going on at home.

Mayahni wanted out.
It got worse.
The littlest things triggered Michael.And she had no choice but to deal with it.
Its her word against his.
"When you get home i want this house clean" He said trying to find a reason to be upset with her.
She didn't respond.
Walking up to her grabbing her by shirt.
"Dad you stretching my clothes" Mayahni said with tears clouding her vision
"I DONT GIVE A FUCK I BOUGHT DIS" He said making her cry.
"Matter fact. Alright" He spoke
Seeing her grandmother just looking hurt her more than what her dad just did.
She knew her grandma wouldn't stand up to her dad. But why not step in between?
Mayahni had a plan to run away. Just like her mother.
At school
"Hey mayahni" Ayana and kymori said speaking to Mayahni
Mayahni took them into the bathroom and told them what she had planned.
"I cant do it y'all, he beats me. All the time. Im running away. If he ask y'all do y'all know where im at. say NO" Mayahni said crying.
Mayahni knew she could trust them.
They held secrets for eachother all the time.
But would they hold this one?
"You can come stay with me" Kymori suggested.
"Thanks but thats where he might look"
"Im going to find my mom" Mayahni spoke
"Can we come" Ayana asked.
"Ill be back. I promise.Pinky promise" Mayahni said.
"You cant break those yahni." Kymori said
"I know. Ill be back"
After school
In mayahnis mind. Either she was gonna run away, or kill herself.
She wasn't bold enough to do that so running away it was.
Walking into her room sat Michael with a belt.
A belt for what?
What did she do wrong? She wasn't even with him today.
"You been tryna tell on me" He spoke angrily.
She couldn't.
She ran.
He tried chasing her but he wasn't that fast.
Mayahni only had a ipad.
That she took with her.
She just kept running until she heard a car behind her.
Her father.
But a young mayahni still didn't stop.
Should she go to yana house? Or kys?
Nan one. She was going to the police.
Michael tried hitting Mayahni with the car but she got on the side walk.

She knew her dad was gonna get in trouble.
And that she didn't care about.
Running into the police station she told them everything.
From A-Z.
EVERYTHING.
Everything including what happened with her mother.
Balling her eyes out.
They took Michael in for questioning.
"Please dont make me go back there. He's gonna hurt me. So bad this time" Mayahni said crying.
"Do you have any other family members" A police offer asked.
"No. Just my mom but she left me. Said she was going to get help" Mayahni spoke lookin down.
"Whats your mother name."
"Jessica."
Then all the policeman stared at this Brown skin lady.
Hair stopped a little past her butt.
Her mom.
Mayahni now hated her mom.
Her mom left her.
"Baby...im back." Jes spoke.
Her mother not even being miles away.
AND shes a police officer.
She didn't help.
She didn't wanna help.
Mayahni had no one.
The person who she THOUGHT she had.. left and never looked back.
"Do you wanna leave with your mother" A police officer asked.
It was either she leave with her mom.. or go back to the house with her grandma
and that she wasn't gonna do.
"yes" Mayahni said.
Her mom wasn't gonna come back for her.
Her mom made a new living.
To find out her mother was at most 3 miles away.
And didn't come back.. hurt her.
