Chapter 17
The last thing I'd want was for Harry to be gone. I knew I'd screwed up. Why did I have to be like that? He'd come after me and apologized, but I was too much of an arse to swallow my own anger and forgive him. My feet flew down the concrete stairs, my breath coming in sharp gasps. It hurt trying to inhale more air, but it was worth it if I could still have Harry in my life. I was starting to panic, I had to be fast before I was caught and put back in my bed, and I'd never get to tell Harry I was sorry.

I grasped Louis' hand, and he tugged me back to the elevators. I was relieved in some ways that he'd come to get me. I hated to think that I might actually have left, and lost the only girl who'd ever made me feel truly in love. Louis quickly hit the button to call the elevator, but it felt like it was taking forever to come. The wait, no matter how short, was killing me inside.
"Hey, Lou," I said, "Why don't we take the stairs instead." I nodded to the nearby door to the stairwell. "It'll be faster." He didn't question me, but simply waltzed across the hall and shoved the door. With a great effort, the door finally squealed open, the hinges heavily rusted. I looked over the railing, glancing up at the many flights of stairs. Without really thinking about it, I just started to jog up, taking the stairs 2 at a time, and leaving Louis fighting to keep up with my long strides.
"Harry!" I heard him shout behind me. "Harry, wait up!" I didn't pay attention to his calls. I just pushed myself harder, running up the stairs. I could faintly hear the shuffling sounds of bare feet slapping concrete. I dismissed the noises as Louis trailing behind me, and I looked down at my feet again. The sounds got louder and harder to ignore, but I still didn't look up. I reached the third landing between flights of stairs, when I felt something smash into me. I stumbled backward from the impact, narrowly keeping from falling down the stairs I'd just climbed. I landed hard on the small concrete landing, with who- or what- ever I'd just run into landing on top of me. Opening my eyes for the first time, I glanced up to see Rae, her eyes still jammed shut, her small frame shaking slightly.
"Rae?" I asked confused. "What are you doing? You should be in bed." She finally opened one of her eyes to peer at me.
"I just needed to tell you," she began, breathing heavily. "That I'm sorry for earlier. I was just so upset about everything, but I was actually glad you were there." Rae's body perceptibly relaxed as I put a strong arm around her waist as we laid on the floor together. "I just needed to tell you that I love you, Harry, and I don't care about before-"
"Just shut up and kiss me," I whispered as I pulled her impossibly closer to me, my hand grasping her small face; our lips crashing together. She kissed me back, our lips moving in sync for the first time since the accident. Despite everything, I still felt butterflies in my stomach, and shivers down my spine when she ran the slender fingers of her uninjured hand through my curls. I smiled slightly when I heard her giggle with delight as my large hand slid down her back and came to rest on the curve of her ass.
"Well, what have we got here," Louis interupted our moment as he finally reached the landing. I turned my head to look at him immediately, a huge smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. I could feel Rae's brilliant blue eyes on me, and all I could do was laugh, imagining how awkward we must've looked laying on the floor. "Jeez Haz, you could've at least taken her to dinner first." This illicited a laugh from Rae, who clearly was thinking the same thing I was. I looked up at her and admired her face, while even though it was cut and bruised, it had never looked more beautiful. I didn't care about how we looked anymore, and I pulled Rae into another kiss, and felt content with the way that everything with her was perfectly imperfect, and in that was all I wanted.
