Chapter 10

It was hard to breathe as I was shoved into the back of the police car. I didn't know what to do. I didn't speak a word. I couldn't bring myself to acknowledge the thoughts running through my head. I short while later, I was released from the back of the car and hauled into the police station. The officers put me in a holding cell with a few other people, all of whom I was absolutely terrified of. As they started to walk off, one of the officers spun around.

"I almost forgot. You get your call," he said in a gruff tone to me. They hauled me out and lead me to a row of payphones along the wall. "Here," the man handed me a few dimes. "Make it quick." I was so terrified. I dialed Louis' cell phone number as quick as I could. The phone rang and rang. I thought he was never going to answer. I was about to hang up when he finally picked up.

"Hello?" His voice sounded strange to me. 

"Louis," I responded relieved. "Boobear, something terrible has happened." I felt tears welling up in my eyes as the memory of Rae being taken into the ambulance came into my mind. 

"Harry?" Louis asked. "Is that you, mate?" 

"Yeah," I said, my throat getting tight. 

"What's wrong? Who's number is this?"

"I'm calling from a payphone down at the L.A. police station," I began to explain, the tears finally spilling over my eyes. "Rae's been hurt. Bad." I could hear Louis gasp on the other end of the phone.

"I'll be there as soon as I can. Just hang on for me, everything is going to be okay." I sobbed openly now. I didn't know if things would be okay. For all I knew, Rae was lying dead in the hospital. If I could just have her in my arms right now, it would be okay. Until then, I didn't know how I was going to survive. I couldn't respond, so I just hung up the phone.

"I'm so sorry," I squeaked out to the officer. "I didn't mean to hurt you, or your partner." He nodded at me, as if to accept my apology, but still marched me back to my cell.
