My alarm goes off at 5 am this morning. Normally I would profusely resist from waking up at such a horrible hour, but today is different. Today is the day of a start of an actual career for for me. Today is the day I am moving from my dingy apartment in New York City to my new home in Los Angeles, which I'm sharing with two other roommates. Recently a record company contacted me after seeing few of my videos on YouTube. For the last few years I have been posting covers on the internet and occasionally a few original songs and I'm glad to say that I have gained a substantial enough following to be able to get an opportunity like this.
I get out of bed and begin to get ready for my flight.
A little while later someone knocks on my door. I assume it to be Sawyer because he's probably the only other person in the state who would willingly be awake at this hour, just so he could drive me to the airport. I open the door for him to enter my pretty much empty apartment. We shipped my other things to my new address earlier this week so everything would be there when I arrived. The only things that are still here are the furniture that came with my apartment and both of my suitcases.
"Ready to go?" he asks, chirpily.
"You're perky," I notice.
"That's because I get to see your beautiful self this morning," he says giving me a light kiss on the nose, "So is this it?" he asks gesturing to my suitcases.
"Yep."
"Okay, well we better get going if you want to make your flight," he says, taking hold of my bags and leading the way down the stairs to his car.
He places my things in the trunk before getting into his car himself.
I got rid of my Jeep last year by giving it to my brother when he left for a new life in Maine. I never really used it anyway and it seemed that he would have more use of it than I would, since usually I just walk everywhere
"Are you excited?" Sawyer quizzes.
"What do you think, Sawyer Amelia?"
"Well Olivia Dave, I think you are. You'll have a lot of fun. I know you love music so I think you'll enjoy every second of it."
We continue talking as we drive, Sawyer growing more and more quiet the closer we got to our destination.
When we arrive, Sawyer follows me inside, each of us pulling a suitcase in one hand and holding each others empty hand. He helps me check in and follows me to security, gripping tightly onto my hand.
"Sawyer, I need to go," I say in front of the entrance to the long line ahead of us.
"Okay," he sighs, not letting go of my hand.
"I'll call you as soon as I land and we can Skype later."
"I'll be looking forward to what you think of the west coast."
"Okay," I chuckle, "Bye Sawyer," I say squeezing his hand.
"Are you sure you have to leave?"
"Yeah."
"Okay, but just don't ever leave me."
"I would never. I promise."
His eyes begin to water and he pulls me into one last kiss before I have to go. The kiss is slow and bittersweet. We linger for as long as we can but all too soon we pull apart and it's time for me to get in line.
I see him through the glass wall after I get though security and give him one last wave before I head to my gate. Shortly we begin boarding and I glance back at him one last time as I hand the gate attendant my ticket. He quickly brushes his hand against his eyes. Was he crying? The passengers behind me grow impatient as I hesitate, so I turn and make my way down the tunnel and into my seat in the plane.
