Today is the day. The day exactly five months ago that Sawyer proposed to me. We both decided that we didn't want a crazy long engagement so yes, today is my wedding day.
The last five months have been crazy busy, I've been busy completing the recording of my new album and Sawyer has been selected to paint a mural on a building in New York starting next month, let alone planning the wedding from long distance. But finally the big day has arrived. We decided to keep the wedding small and only invite close friends and family.
I had become quite close to my roommate Christine and even Gabby, although she took a little warming up to, so I asked both of them to be bridesmaids. Sawyer has three of his closest college friends as groomsmen. We even decided to invite my brother, Eric, but none of my other family, who I know would strongly disapprove of me marrying someone who doesn't have much money. They always taught us that we ought to marry someone for personal gain, such as wealth or political status. But here I am, doing the complete opposite of that, and knowing that I'll be much happier because I'm going to be able to spend the rest of my life with the man I love.
"You ready?" Eric asks me, peeking his head through the door of the room where I am standing infront of the mirror, just savoring the moment.
I smooth out my simple white dress and nod, "Definitely."
My brother smiles and offers me his arm. I take it and walk with him down the short hallway to the small chapel we reserved for the wedding. Once we arrive at the closed door, which will soon open to reveal my soon-to-be husband, Christine lets out a squeak of excitement upon seeing me all ready to go. Gabby stands behind her, with a small smile on her face, as my other roommate goes forward to give me a quick hug.
"You ready? I mean there's still time to back out if you need to..." Eric reassures me.
"No. I'm ready."
"You sure?"
"Yes."
"Be serious with me... Stop smiling."
"Eric, it's my wedding day. I'm supposed to be smiling."
"Well then good. Just making sure!" he says, holding his hands up in defense.
"You ready?" Gabby asks, about to open the chapel door.
I nod and take Eric's arm again as my two roommates begin proceeding down the isle. Finally it's my turn and we begin making our way down the short stretch of isle. All the attendants stand when I enter the room, but the only person I see in the room is Sawyer, who is standing at the end, and when he sees me a grin breaks across his face, causing me to smile even more than I already am.
When Eric and I arrive at the front of the chapel, we are able to begin the ceremony.
"Glad you could make it babe," Sawyer whispers to me while the pastor speaks.
"Me too."
He smiles upon hearing my reply and we go silent, listening to the preacher's words. Soon it is time for the vows. We repeat the words the pastor instructs us to say, and then he permits us to kiss. We both smile as our lips part and then turn to the cheering audience, us both grinning from ear to ear, and make our way down the isle.
