"More practice,"Conner lamented as he stood in the middle of the woods with Kira, Jay, and Tommy. He was still sore from the last time he sparred with Jay.
Jay had gone pretty easy on Conner, but the red ranger couldn't find his groove to fight back effectively, earning quite a few bruises for his efforts.
"Where's Ethan,"Jay asked.
"Probably at Cyberspace,"Kira answered,"What's on the menu today Dr.O?"
"Since Ethan's not here, I'll work with Conner, and Jay can work with you,"Tommy answered, the two of them jumping in the jeep and driving away before she could object.
The sound of the jeep faded into nothing as the two rangers stood there in silence.
"Well, now what,"Kira asked.
"Now,"Jay threw her one of the wooden practice swords and collected one for himself,"Show me what you got."
The two fought for about fifteen minutes, and Jay had to say, Kira wasn't bad, but she kept getting distracted.Every couple of minutes, or so, she'd lose focus, and Jay would score a hit.
Finally deciding to get to the bottom of it, Jay deflected her sword, holding his under her chin,"What's on your mind?"
"You mean other than the stick at my throat,"She quipped.
"Yes, other than that,"He lowered the blade, throwing her a bottle of water,"So, what's distracting you so badly?"
"How can you fight so well,"She blurted.
"My father is the black ranger, I'd hope I could."
"Seriously, JJ."
"Trying out a nickname, are we,"He asked, a slight blush appearing on her cheeks,"To answer your question, my parents taught me to fight when I was young, especially Dad, but Mom did, too."
"Sounds rough."
"Hard to complain with the results,"He smirked at her response,"Speaking of, you have anything, in particular, you want to work on?"
"I want to fight as good as you."
"Aspirational,"Jay teased.
"Seriously, Jay,"She put her hands on her hips, "Can you at least try and help me here?"
"Never said I wouldn't, I'll teach you like my mother taught me,"He responded, taking the sword from her hands, driving the both of them into the ground,"You've just got to have an open mind."
"Open mind, okay," Kira tried to brace herself for some sort of intense training, barely registering Jay playing light music from his mp3.
"Alright, you ready,"He asked, the girl nodded, hyping herself up, not expecting what he said next.He held his hand out and simply said,"Dance with me."
He could see the wheels turn in her head, her mouth unable to form words for a couple of seconds before she stammered out,"What?"
"I promise I'm going somewhere with this, so, dance with me."
Hesitantly taking his hand, she stiffened when his rested on her waist.
"Relax, follow my lead,"He instructed as they began to dance around the forest, Jay waiting until Kira finally allowed herself to relax and dance to the music's rhythm to actually begin.
They began to dance faster, this time as Jay spun Kira around, he threw lazy strikes, the girl evading them easily.Faster and faster they danced around until, before they knew it, they were clashing the training swords again, fighting in perfect rhythm with the music and each other.
