Sarah. She always caught my attention. At first I didn't know she existed, the school was a big place. Thousands of students; I saw a new face everyday. How did I see her face in the crowd of rushing people, quickly moving to their classes? I caught her standing next to me, talking to the teacher I was wishing to speak with. Looking at her from the corner of my eye and listening to her voice. It was interesting. She was interesting. She wore her hair short and her voice was deep, but she was very energetic.
When she was done speaking with the teacher, we both exchanged looks. Then the teacher began to talk to us both. It was all a blur. I only caught half of what the teacher said. She turned to me to see what I had to say, I snapped back into reality.
"Huh? What? Uh yeah I'd love to be your art aid along with her."
She smiled at me and made my heart skip. I was going to spend my favorite subject with this angel. It was fate.
After school everyday we stayed after in the art room helping the teacher out. We planned for the next day, cleaned up, or sometimes grading papers. Then if done early we could work on our own art from class. We were doing a project on Renaissance paintings. We had to choose a famous artist from that time and try to copy their style. It may sound hard, but being so into art that you basically breathe it, it was nothing. Easy. A piece of cake.
I was a very soft painter/drawer. On the other hand Sarah was a realistic and rough painter/drawer. It felt alive and free. It always put a smile on my face. It was refreshing. On the other hand, I thought it would be easy to get close to her. But she was always busy and... distant. She was very friendly and was very happy to help. Unlike me.
I'd say something to her and we'd agree on it and maybe laugh a little bit but then she'd go right back to doing something. Even after we were done helping she had to go to work. She worked at the library across the street. At times I would go to the library just to see her.
I remember once I was waiting in front of the library to be picked up and she saw me as she was going to work. She actually had extra time to spare and sat next to me and talked. I was so awkward as I answered her questions. But she always had a smile. She was kind to everyone so I didn't think much of it. She did everything. She was hardworking, friendly, athletic, smart, and beautiful. I couldn't stand a chance with her. And I'm pretty sure she is straight.
No matter, I don't mind just standing on the side lines and watching the goddess live her life. I was just another pasting leaf in the wind.
