The soft rucking from the pigeons outside of the window made clear the day had begun. Yet the boy behind the window was still fast asleep.
Drool came out of the side of his mouth as soft snores filled the room. The boys Pikachu was lying beside him, also fast asleep.
For the ones who know this boy, it is not weird to see him like this. He always sleeps in. Even when he has something important going on. Like getting his first ever Pokémon.
'Ash get up!'
'Mom, give me just a few more minutes,' the boy groaned recognizing the voice.
Normally he would just turn around and sleep further, but his eyes opened this time. He remembered suddenly where he was. He had returned home after winning from Leon. He said Goh goodbye.
Even after so many times saying goodbye to his friends and travel companions. It still hurts him, they had so many adventures together. Either good or bad.
He sat up and he felt a soft paw on his leg, his eyes went down to Pikachu looking at him worriedly.
'Pika?'
It seemed to ask if Ash was alright. The boy just smiled and softly petted the Pokémon's head. Pikachu sounded happy when the hand of his trainer was petting him.
'I have breakfast downstairs.'
Ash nodded; he forgot his mother was still in his room. He must have looked stupid staring at Pikachu like that.
The boy stretched himself and got up, jumped down his high sleeper, and took his clothes. He smiled a bit while looking at all the different outfits he had worn through every journey. Every time a bit different, but the blue and red came back most of the time.
Red
Ash shook his head and got his clothes on.
'Come on Pikachu! Who is there first gets the last chocolate!' he said laughing and ran downstairs.
Pikachu followed quickly making a sound that you can take like: "Try to beat me!"
Well, the sound was correct, Pikachu won while Ash made a Salto from the stairs. His mother looked at him with a shaking head.
'Young boy, you really should be more careful!'
'Sorry mom, but I wanted that last chocolate!' Ash got up and Pikachu jumped on his head.
The boy almost fell again, and Pikachu started to laugh a bit. They sat down. Ash smiled looking at the eggs with bacon his mother prepared for him. Whenever he was away, he missed the amazing cooking of his mother. He waited for his mother to sit down to stuff his mouth with the delicious food. It made his mother laugh; her son didn't change one bit.
'You need your face stuffed like that? You look as round as a potato,' Dahlia commented.
'What? It is so good!!'
The woman smiled and looked at Pikachu doing the same, she didn't get to see her son that much. That is why she is only so happy to see him whenever it is possible. She always gets worried about Ash when he is away. Dahlia has heard a lot of times about the trouble and dangers Ash got in, but the boy never talked about it with her. It made her worried her son may not return home. But it was what he loved, so she would never stop him from doing that. How badly she would want that.
'So what are you going to do now? Want to go further around the world?'
Ash drank some of the juice as he thought about it.
'I am not sure, maybe stay with my Pokémon for a while? I can't wait to just do whatever I feel like! All that traveling makes me feel like I am a 50-year-old man.'
Dahlia laughed at that and agreed. She told him to go and meet Professor Oak and maybe just stroll around town. The boy nodded and after breakfast, he and Pikachu went there.

10 years

After years of spending with his Pokémon and strolling around in town. Ash felt getting bored. Sometimes people came to challenge him, but he soon found out they weren't strong enough unless there was an official battle.
Professor Oak told him to just not accept any battles unless Ash had the feeling, they were incredibly strong or interesting. It made Ash look differently at all the times he challenged the champions. He now understands why they didn't battle without a reason. Though he didn't accept every challenge, he has still a lot of people following him. He didn't like the attention that much. Well at first, he did.
He now was sitting on the field, his Pokémon playing behind him. His eyes are staring at the forest, but he doesn't look. He was deep in thought.
So deep that he didn't hear someone walk to him and sit down. He got startled and saw Gary then.
'Wow you are deep in your thoughts there!' the voice of Gary let Ash go back in time.
All the times they fought and couldn't stand each other, to be friends. And good friends for that.
'Yeah, first time I think,' Ash grinned and then looked away again.
'Why are you looking like this?'
'What do you mean?' the black-haired boy sounded confused.
'You look like a sad Wheepinbell. Like you didn't get to eat for like 5 days.'
'I don't- I did?'
'Yes, my grandpa asked if I could check on you. Everyone noticed you have been off for the last week. What is up?'
Ash sighed; he didn't know what was wrong. It was a strange empty feeling. It could be missing the traveling. Or missing having a goal. But even if he couldn't figure out that feeling he knew one thing. He was bored.
'I think, I am just bored.'
'Why don't you go on an adventure then?'
'What? But to do what? I am the champion now.'
'So? A lot of champions travel around and are busy, why don't you go on and just do something fun.'
'Like what?'
'Maybe back to the research lab. Goh stopped working with us 8 years ago, so maybe he is there too you know. Maybe you can just be researchers again?'
Ash felt silent, it was a good idea. Though he didn't know if his mother would like this, they would go on a vacation in just a few months.
'She will understand.'
The black-haired boy turned with shock on his face to Gary who smirked when he saw Ash his look.
'I know what you are thinking, now get home and get ready!'
Ash smiled, and he nodded. Determined and excited again. The somber feeling, he had disappeared. He could go back to be a researcher and maybe even work with Goh again! He jumped up and thanked Gary while running off.

Gary smiled and turned back his head to the forest and his smile faded.

'I hope you can fix Goh Ash.'
Ash called Pikachu who jumped on his shoulder as he ran home.
'You would be the only one, who can get him back.'
