Zane's POV

I placed the blood sample under the microscope as I mixed a portion of it with the strongest antibiotics and medicines known in Ninjago.

I made sure that I was wearing medical gloves during this process. Lloyd's green blood sample was of unknown origin, after all.

I was at the laboratory, alone, working on discovering important things about Lloyd's strange case. It might be something dangerous and serious, placing us in a race against time.

Lloyd's safety was and will always be our top priority.

Nya and Cole went grocery shopping together, while I headed to the nearest hospital to access the laboratory. The last time I saw Kai and Lloyd was before they headed to the park together, and Jay stayed at home since he didn't feel like doing anything today.

I sighed. Knowing how Jay and Kai lacked intelligence, I think we might regret charging them with such a great responsibility.

I added a few drops of the strongest antibiotic to the sample of green blood, then I looked through the eyepiece of the microscope to observe any changes—even subtle ones.

Keep in mind that this was the strongest drug, so, if there were any unwanted microbes in the sample that might be causing this terrifying green color, this antibiotic should be able to kill them and return the blood sample back to its normal color. However, due to its strength, it would be foolish not to expect the death of good bacteria, too.

But, that wasn't the case.

My eyes widened at the shocking finding.

The sample didn't diminish in size. Instead, its amount grew, as if medicine that was supposed to kill cells promoted cell division, spreading the effects of this strange phenomenon.

Wait, what does this mean?

I have already tried many different types of medicines, but they were proven to be ineffective.

My heart dropped at the realization.

I clutched the clipboard, ticking the last checkbox with the name of the last medicine.

Lloyd's case reacted negatively to antibiotics. No, his case seemed to worsen. There were only two logical conclusions, and—as much as I hated to admit it—both of them were undesirable.

Conclusion one: This disease is not unfamiliar to humanity, but a cure is yet to be introduced, allowing more opportunities in the fields of science and medicine.

I gulped at the second conclusion that seemed more likely to be the case.

Conclusion two: It is a new disease with no cure whatsoever.

No, this can't be it.

It can't be!

Impossible! There must be more to it!

I looked back at Lloyd's sample, and what I saw was truly truly concerning.

A gasp escaped my lips as I backed away from the sample under the microscope, my clipboard falling from my hands, scattering my notes on the ground.

The sample. The sample burned through the thin microscope slide that was holding it. It was as though Lloyd's blood suddenly became... acidic?!

What was happening exactly?!

Conclusion three: The green blood is slowly... killing Lloyd from inside by slowly burning him alive.

Cure: Unknown.

There are still many things that we don't know yet, but what became clear to us is that we were indeed in a race against time.
