It was a Monday morning and Miyuki was still sleeping in her bed when her phone rang. "Ugh, who would be calling this early in the morning?" Miyuki grabbed her phone from the nightstand and answered it, "Hello?"
"Good morning, sleepyhead!" answered a cheery voice that Miyuki recognized to be Naomi's. "How come you're calling so early? It's Sunday," Miyuki said, still sounding sleepy.
"Miyuki, it's Monday. We have school today," Naomi said with a sigh.
"Huh?" Miyuki looked at her phone and realized that it was indeed Monday. "Oh crap! Let me guess, you're already waiting at the crosswalk... aren't you?" Miyuki said nervously.
"Mhm," Naomi replied.
"Okay, give me a few minutes and I will be outside," Miyuki said before hanging up the phone. She quickly got ready for school, brushed her teeth, put on her headband, uniform, and shoes. Then, she grabbed a piece of toast and ran out the door to see that Naomi was still standing at the crosswalk. "I'm so sorry, I forgot yesterday was Sunday!" Miyuki exclaimed.
Naomi chuckled and said, "Hey, that's not funny!"
"I know, but I can't help but chuckle. Anyways, let's get going or else we're going to be late," Miyuki said, trying to make up for her mistake. The two girls started to make their way to school.
"Hey Miyuki, have you thought about joining any clubs?" Naomi asked.
Miyuki shook her head and replied, "Not really, why?"
"Well, I think it would be a good way to start the school year! And you can make new friends," Naomi suggested.
Miyuki took a minute to think and then said, "Well, I could take a look after class at some clubs."
Naomi smiled and said, "That would be a good idea. If you want, I could help you look."
"That's okay, I think I'll look for one myself," Miyuki said.
"Oh, alright then!" Naomi replied. As soon as they got to the school, the girls went inside and split up to go to their classes. When Miyuki got to her class, the teacher was sitting at his desk doing some documents. "Good morning, Miyuki," he greeted her.
"Morning, sir," Miyuki replied before walking to a desk and taking a seat. Soon after, the rest of the students walked in and took their seats as well. The bell rang, and the lesson started.
Before the teacher started the lesson, the class was interrupted by the door. A tall girl with long navy-blue hair had entered the classroom, and the teacher wasn't too happy about it. "Miss Reed, you're late," the teacher said in a gruff tone.
The girl had a look of panic on her face and replied, "I'm so sorry, sir. I lost track of time, and..."
"You're lucky you're one of my best students. Just take your seat and make it the last time you will be late for my class. Is that understood, Miss Reed?" the teacher interrupted.
"Yes, sir," the girl replied and went to one of the desks to take a seat. Some of the students chuckled, which made the girl's face turn red. Then, the teacher went on with the lesson.
A few hours passed, and the classes were over. Club activities had begun, and Miyuki was sitting on a bench waiting for Naomi to get out of class. "Join the poetry club!" Miyuki looked up to see the same girl from her class passing out flyers while the students walked past her. Suddenly, the girl slipped and fell, and her flyers were all over the ground. Miyuki got up and walked toward the girl, saying, "Here, let me help you."
Miyuki crouched down to help the girl pick up the flyers. "Thank you," the girl said appreciatively. Miyuki took a look at one of the flyers and said, "Oh, I like your flyer design. It's very nice."
The girl smiled, and once all the flyers were picked up, Miyuki handed them to her. "Thank you so much! I don't know how I slipped," the girl said.
Miyuki giggled and said, "Don't worry. I trip and fall sometimes too."
"Hehe, yeah. I never trip before. Hey, are you in any club?" the girl asked.
Miyuki shook her head and replied, "No, but I was trying to find one."
"Oh, well, here. Take a flyer, and I hope you stop by," the girl said, handing Miyuki a flyer.
Miyuki smiled and said, "I will. I'll stop by tomorrow!" With that, Miyuki waved to the girl and sat back on the bench to wait for Naomi. It wasn't long until she saw Naomi walking out of the classroom.
"Hey Miyuki, ready to walk home?" Naomi asked.
"Yep," Miyuki replied. Naomi and Miyuki exited the school and went home. The two parted ways to go into their respective houses. Miyuki unlocked her door and went inside and upstairs into her room. Miyuki couldn't help but jump for joy, saying, "I can't wait to visit the poetry club tomorrow!" Out of nowhere, Miyuki got a phone call from an unknown number.
"Um, hello?" Miyuki answered the phone.
"Hey, Miyuki! Long time no see!" said a cheerful voice on the other end of the line.
"Sayori?!" Miyuki exclaimed.
"Hehe, it's nice to speak to you again! I know it's been too long, but anyways, how have you been? Anything new?" Sayori asked.
"Well, I saw this girl in my class, and she was advertising a poetry club, but she fell, and I helped her. And she gave me this flyer!" Miyuki said excitedly.
"That's awesome, Miyuki! Are you going to stop by?" Sayori asked.
"Well, yeah! I was going to stop by tomorrow," Miyuki replied.
"Great! When you do, let me know what happens," Sayori said.
"Don't worry, I will!" Miyuki replied. "Well, I'll leave you to it. I have some stuff to do, so good luck!" With that, Sayori and Miyuki hung up the phone, and Miyuki went to her desk to start writing a poem for tomorrow.
